Requirements

Ph.D. or equivalent experience in Molecular Biology or Biochemistry
At least 3 years of full-time relevant scientific experience post-PhD, including leadership roles
Hands-on technical experience in the following areas: mutagenesis, NGS method development, and library prep optimization
Experience building and optimizing computational pipelines to analyze NGS experiments
Passionate about Tidy Data and bioinformatic workflows that follow best software development practices
Effective project management ability demonstrated by ability to scope work with key stakeholders, create milestones and timelines, identify blockers

Job Responsibility

Design and execute protocols for mutagenesis and targeted sequencing of polymorphisms across a broad range of unicellular and multicellular organisms
Develop and implement quantitative and qualitative molecular assays to enable screening and functional characterization of diverse molecular phenotypes
Ensure quality of resulting datasets is appropriate for downstream applications and assays and processes are well documented and parameterized
Independently troubleshoot challenges, such as comparing orthologous techniques for capturing relevant genotypic data at higher throughput and lower cost
Prepare RNA and DNA libraries for sequencing
Automate or develop higher throughput strategies for recurring molecular biology workflows
Project manage contract work with outside consultants, CROs, and sequencing vendors
Manage and guide team performance and provide professional and technical mentorship
Keep detailed experimental records and documentation (SOPs) for all workflows
Synthesize ideas, data, and findings into fully open-access pubs and engage with the scientific community to maximize impact and garner feedback that improves the work

Demonstrated expertise in cell- or organism-based assay development, including design, execution, and optimization

Must possess an active and valid CLS or Clinical Genetic Molecular Biologist Scientist (CGMBS) license issued by the state of California
Must fulfill requirements stated in 42 CFR 493.1489 OR 493.1491
Must fulfill requirements stated in the College of American Pathologists Molecular Pathology Checklist
Working knowledge of local, state, and federal laboratory regulations required

Job Responsibility

Clinical Data Review, Interpretation, and Reporting: Review and interpret clinical genomics data, and sign out clinical laboratory reports, ensuring accuracy and reliability of clinical reporting
Quality Assurance: Partner with Quality Management team on QC and QA programs to maintain the highest standards in laboratory testing and reporting, ensuring adherence to CLIA, CAP, and other regulatory guidelines
Process Improvement: Identify opportunities for process optimization, efficiency enhancement, and cost-effective laboratory practices
Collaborate with Research & Development, bioinformatics and Genomic Technology team to develop, validate, and implement of new laboratory tests, methodologies, and data management and reporting systems
Team Leadership: Provide leadership and guidance to laboratory staff, including scientists, technicians, and support personnel
Collaboration: Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Lab Operation, Customer Service, Product, Commercial, to support company goals
Analysis and Reporting (70%): Execute the bioinformatics pipelines that process and analyze raw data from samples
