Job Description:

We are seeking a highly skilled, multi-disciplinary Mobile Engineer with expertise in a variety of trades, including plumbing, general building maintenance, and fabric work (such as painting, and basic carpentry). This position requires a flexible, proactive individual who will be part of a team responsible for the maintenance and repair of facilities across multiple sites. The ideal candidate should have strong problem-solving abilities, good communication skills, and a keen eye for detail. A company van will be provided to support travel between locations.

Job Responsibility:

  • General Maintenance: Perform reactive and planned maintenance work on a range of building systems, including electrical, plumbing, heating, and cooling systems
  • Fabric Work & Painting: Handle a variety of fabric works such as painting, plastering, decorating, patch repairs, and general carpentry tasks (e.g., door adjustments, replacing locks, etc.)
  • Inspection & Repair: Carry out routine inspections, identifying potential issues, and performing the necessary repairs to ensure safe and efficient operation of all building systems
  • Plumbing: Repair plumbing systems (e.g., fixing leaks, unclogging drains, repairing pipes)
  • Preventative Maintenance: Complete regular checks on equipment and facilities, ensuring proactive maintenance is undertaken
  • Health & Safety Compliance: Adhere to safety regulations, carrying out risk assessments, and ensuring work is completed to the highest standards
  • Customer Service: Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, responding to issues quickly and efficiently while ensuring high levels of customer satisfaction
  • Reporting: Maintain accurate records of work completed, including logging jobs on a mobile device, completing paperwork, and reporting to supervisors as required

Requirements:

  • Proven experience as a multi-skilled engineer, preferably within a mobile or field-based role
  • Strong background in general building maintenance, fabric work, and painting
  • Ability to troubleshoot and repair electrical, HVAC, and plumbing systems
  • Basic carpentry skills, including door and lock repairs
  • Experience with plastering, decorating, and surface preparation (essential)
  • Relevant qualifications in one or more trades (e.g., NVQ, City & Guilds) would be advantageous
  • Strong understanding of Health & Safety standards and regulations
  • Full, clean UK driving license (essential)
  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively
  • Good communication skills, with the ability to liaise with clients and colleagues professionally
  • Flexibility to travel to different locations and work on a variety of tasks

  • Carry out repair and maintenance on mobile plant and site infrastructure, as planned or directed by site management, including mechanical engineering, fabrication, and welding tasks
  • Plan and deliver corrective and reactive work, making sure tools, parts and materials are available, minimising production downtime, upholding the highest safety standards, and maintaining tidy work areas through a ‘clean as you go’ approach at all times
  • Ensure the equipment used to undertake welding, fabrication or other service work is in good working order and serviced as required. Must have a solid understanding of all hot work activities and welding accessories
  • Ensure that all plant and equipment on site is modified and improved, as necessary, to maximise equipment availability and performance whilst still achieving output levels required to meet production demands
  • Complete dynamic risk assessments where necessary to ensure that safe working practices are upheld, and risk reduced
  • Be aware of stock control and maintain shift paperwork to the highest standard, to complete condition reports and other documentation as defined by the maintenance strategy
  • Assess malfunctioning equipment and provide advice to the site management team to support and influence decision‑making
  • Carry out engineering project work and assist with new installations or refurbishments to ensure high quality, reliable operational performance
  • Update and administer the Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS) while completing Planned Maintenance inspections in line with the site maintenance plan, ensuring all work is carried out safely and effectively
  • Contribute to problem solving workshops, providing engineering expertise to identify root causes of failures and subsequent improvement actions
