Job Description:

As part of the Mill Processing Team, the Mill Operator 4 - Paste Plant Operator will be responsible for operating and maintaining the paste plant facility to produce high-quality paste for backfilling purposes in underground mining operations. Paste Plant Operator role involves mixing tailings sulfidic materials, water, and additives according to specific formulas, monitoring the paste consistency, and ensuring adherence to safety and environmental standards.

Job Responsibility:

  • Operate and monitor paste plant equipment, including pumps, mixers, conveyors, and control systems
  • Prepare paste mixtures by accurately measuring and adding cement, water, and additives per established formulas
  • Adjust process parameters to achieve the desired paste consistency for effective backfilling
  • Conduct routine quality control checks (density, rheology, etc.) on paste mixtures
  • Collaborate with engineers, geotechnical experts, and team members to meet paste specifications
  • Perform regular maintenance and cleaning of plant equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation
  • Troubleshoot and resolve equipment or operational issues promptly to minimize downtime
  • Follow safety protocols, environmental regulations, and health standards
  • Maintain accurate records of production data, equipment maintenance, and quality checks
  • Participate in training and professional development to stay updated on industry best practices
  • Follow standard operating procedures and guidelines for paste production, safety, and environmental compliance
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors, colleagues, and other departments to ensure smooth plant operations and coordination

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent (technical training an asset)
  • 1+ year experience in a mill or similar industrial setting
  • Knowledge of tailings materials and paste plant equipment (mixers, pumps, control systems)
  • Able to interpret technical documents, formulas, and specifications
  • Detail-oriented with problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
