Job Description:

Buckingham Browne & Nichols School is seeking a full-time Middle School Science teacher to work closely with a team of science teachers co-creating, evaluating, and teaching Science 7 (introductory physical science) and Science 8 (introductory chemistry). The teacher will teach 3-4 classes across both grades, value student voice and agency, and utilize a variety of pedagogical approaches. Other responsibilities include advising in the co-curricular advisory program and contributing to current program needs through coaching, supporting the athletic program, and/or potentially the Science Club.

Job Responsibility:

  • Planning and developing an engaging, age-appropriate course of study
  • Preparing materials for lessons, assignments, and tests
  • Evaluating, correcting, and grading student performance
  • Supervising student behavior
  • Monitoring students' progress
  • Communicating progress and concerns with parents and colleagues
  • Building and maintaining positive relationships
  • Enforcing safety and security standards
  • Maintaining required paperwork
  • Monitoring halls, study periods, and lunch
  • Participating in faculty meetings, conferences, and training
  • Maintaining knowledge of research, developments, and best practices
  • Sponsoring student activities or organizations, including athletics

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Science or a related field (required)
  • Master’s Degree in Science (preferred)
  • At least four years of experience teaching Science at the middle school level (preferred)
  • Commitment to fostering dynamic and engaging classroom experiences
  • Dedication to encouraging students to think deeply through scientific inquiry
  • A creative and multi-dimensional educator
  • Commitment to creating experiences to foster student curiosity and engage in meaningful experimentation
