Job Description

We are seeking a well-qualified and enthusiastic Middle School English Teacher to join the Colonna Campus from August 2026. The successful candidate will teach English across the Middle School years (Key Stage 3 equivalent), delivering engaging, challenging and well-structured lessons that develop students’ literacy, analytical thinking and communication skills. The ideal candidate will inspire a love of literature and language while maintaining high academic standards and supporting students within a multilingual, international environment.

Job Responsibility

  • Deliver high-quality, engaging English lessons aligned with the school’s curriculum and the British educational framework
  • Develop students’ reading, writing, speaking and analytical skills through structured and differentiated teaching
  • Foster a love of literature, language and critical thinking
  • Create a positive, inclusive and academically ambitious classroom environment
  • Assess, monitor and report on student progress to ensure high standards of attainment
  • Prepare students effectively for progression into IGCSE pathways
  • Collaborate with colleagues on curriculum planning, departmental development and sharing of best practice
  • Maintain high standards of behaviour and contribute to pastoral care
  • Engage positively with parents and the wider school community
  • Uphold safeguarding and child protection procedures at all times

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in English or a closely related field
  • PGCE or equivalent recognised teaching qualification
  • Experience teaching English at secondary or upper primary level
  • Strong classroom management and organisational skills
  • Native-level or near-native proficiency in English, with excellent written and spoken communication skills
  • A collaborative, student-centred and reflective approach to teaching
  • Recognised teaching qualification (PGCE or equivalent)
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent certification preferred
  • An EU passport or valid visa to work in Italy would be advantageous
  • Knowledge of the British curriculum is preferred

Nice to have

  • Experience within the British curriculum (desirable)
  • Experience in an international or multilingual school setting (desirable)
  • Familiarity with IGCSE preparation (desirable)
  • Italian language skills are advantageous but not essential
