Job Description:

SMX is seeking a Mid-Level Cloud Engineer to design, implement, and optimize secure, scalable, and resilient cloud-based solutions in support of a federal law enforcement client. The successful candidate will work closely with engineers, developers, and program stakeholders to architect cloud solutions that align with mission and business requirements. This role will focus on AWS GovCloud services, cloud security best practices, and the integration of cloud-native capabilities into enterprise data and analytics platforms.

Job Responsibility:

  • Design and implement secure, scalable cloud solutions to meet evolving program and mission needs
  • Translate business and technical requirements into effective cloud architectures
  • Optimize performance, cost, and scalability of existing AWS GovCloud deployments
  • Support cloud migration efforts, including planning, data transfer, and refactoring workloads
  • Implement cloud security controls, monitoring, and compliance best practices
  • Collaborate with developers and data engineers to integrate applications, databases, and analytics platforms with cloud services
  • Provide technical documentation, architecture diagrams, and guidance for stakeholders
  • Contribute to Agile development cycles by delivering cloud-focused expertise in planning, execution, and troubleshooting

Requirements:

  • 2+ years of experience in cloud architecture, engineering, or solutions design
  • Hands-on experience with AWS GovCloud and associated services (EC2, RDS, S3, IAM, VPC, CloudFormation, CloudWatch)
  • Strong understanding of cloud security and compliance frameworks
  • Experience designing hybrid or multi-cloud architectures
  • Familiarity with containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes, ECS, or EKS)
  • Proficiency in scripting or automation (Python, Bash, or similar)
  • Strong collaboration, problem-solving, and communication skills
  • An active Top Secret clearance is mandatory

Nice to have:

  • AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate or Professional
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Ansible, or similar)
  • Familiarity with data analytics platforms (Redshift, Athena, or similar)
  • Experience supporting federal government or law enforcement IT systems
