The Microbiology registrar provides guidance for clinical teams in the selection and interpretation of tests performed for the diagnosis of infectious diseases, detection of multi-drug resistant organisms for infection control and pathogens of public health importance. The registrar has exposure to laboratory testing with training designed to permit a comprehensive understanding of the working of the laboratory service and the technical and clinical aspects of testing.
Job Responsibility:
Review critical results and notify clinical teams providing clinical advice
Participate in the verification and reporting of selected microbiology tests
Receive on the job education and training integrated with service provision under the supervision of Clinical microbiologists
Act as a clinical link between laboratory scientists in serology, molecular and core microbiology assisting in the setup, selection of tests and reporting of diagnostic samples
Provide guidance for clinical teams in the selection and interpretation of tests performed for the diagnosis of infectious diseases, detection of multi-drug resistant organisms for infection control and pathogens of public health importance
Requirements:
MBBS qualification and current AHPRA registration
PGY3 or later experience and evidence of having working in an equivalent setting within the last 2 years
Excellent communication skills and a broad grasp of clinical Infectious Diseases
Ability to consult, prioritise and make decisions in consultation with scientists, Clinical Microbiologists and clinicians
A logical and ordered approach to testing underlined by the principles of scientific method and laboratory stewardship
Curiosity, diplomacy and adaptability to the laboratory environment
Nice to have:
Previous exposure and experience in Microbiology laboratories and Infectious Diseases
Commitment to work collaboratively with your part time colleague to ensure service provision is effectively provided for the working week with clear lines or communication and reporting
