The Metrology Engineer & IMT Coordinator is a dual-responsibility role critical to ensuring the accuracy and reliability of all measurement processes and equipment within the organization. This individual will be responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining metrological standards, procedures, and systems, as well as coordinating the calibration, maintenance, and tracking of all inspection, measuring, and test (IMT) equipment.
Job Responsibility:
Design, develop, and implement advanced measurement techniques and systems for various products and processes
Evaluate and select appropriate metrology equipment and technologies
Collaborate with design and manufacturing teams to ensure metrology considerations are integrated early in product development
Conduct Gauge R&R (Repeatability & Reproducibility) studies and other MSA techniques
Identify and implement improvements to reduce measurement error and improve data reliability
Train personnel on proper measurement techniques and MSA principles
Investigate and resolve measurement discrepancies, anomalies, and equipment failures
Perform root cause analysis for recurring measurement issues and implement corrective and preventive actions
Develop and maintain metrology-related procedures, work instructions, and best practices
Ensure compliance with national and international metrology standards
Stay abreast of new metrology technologies, software, and industry trends
Identify and implement opportunities for continuous improvement in measurement processes
Provide expert technical support and guidance to manufacturing, quality, and engineering teams on measurement-related issues
Develop and deliver training programs on metrology principles, equipment operation, and MSA
Establish, implement, and maintain a comprehensive calibration program for all IMT equipment
Develop and manage calibration schedules
Maintain detailed calibration records, certificates, and histories
Oversee the inventory, procurement, and disposition of all IMT equipment
Coordinate with suppliers for the purchase, repair, and servicing of equipment
Ensure proper storage, handling, and environmental control for sensitive IMT equipment
Identify, quarantine, and manage non-conforming or out-of-calibration IMT equipment
Initiate investigations into the impact of non-conforming equipment on product quality
Maintain and update the IMT equipment tracking system/database
Generate reports on calibration status, equipment utilization, and upcoming calibration requirements
Ensure all IMT documentation is accurate, complete, and readily accessible for audits
Prepare for and participate in internal and external audits related to IMT equipment and calibration processes
Ensure compliance with relevant regulatory requirements and internal quality standards
Assist in the development and management of the IMT equipment and calibration budget
Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Metrology, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical field
[3-5]+ years of progressive experience in a Metrology Engineer role
[2-3]+ years of experience specifically coordinating IMT equipment calibration and management
Experience in automotive, precision manufacturing is highly desirable
Proficiency with various metrology instruments (e.g., CMMs, optical comparators, laser trackers, calipers, micrometers, profilometers, vision systems)
Strong understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
Expertise in Measurement Systems Analysis (MSA), including Gauge R&R studies
Familiarity with calibration standards (e.g., ISO 17025, ANSI Z540.1)
Experience with calibration management software (e.g., IndySoft, GageTrak, Prolink, etc.)
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documents
Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities

Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment

Must have the ability to work in an office and manufacturing assembly environment, which could include sitting or standing for the majority of the day
The positions requires the ability to stand/walk for up to 2 hours at a time
