Job Responsibility:

  • Examines and tests metal samples using a scanning electron microscope and/or a stereoscope to determine their physical properties
  • Tests samples to determine strength, hardness, elasticity, toughness, or other properties of metal and documents fracture surfaces
  • Polishes or etches metal specimens and photographs samples, using a photomicroscope, or directs photography technical personnel to take, develop, and mount photomicrographs
  • Performs chemical analysis on parts
  • Performs audits and tests on products
  • Writes simple reports

Requirements:

  • Associate’s Degree from a two-year college or technical school, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Previous experience using a scanning electron microscope and stereoscope
  • Previous experience working in a similar lab environment
  • Basic computer skills – including proficiency in basic operating systems
