Job Description:

An exceptional role for an experienced Metallurgist or Metallurgical Engineer, based in Milton Keynes to join a true market leader, a world class manufacturer, with a rich heritage of success within research, development and innovation. We will provide training and development on an ongoing basis. Relocation assistance is available.

Job Responsibility:

  • Help the team and support the key objectives set by the Metallurgical Manager
  • Enjoy both the scale and variety of exciting projects which can change daily
  • Cut, mount, polish and analyse customer issued PoDFA samples, (20% of role)
  • Re-melt customer metal samples, process through the internal PoDFA equipment, cut, mount, polish and analyse the PoDFA samples. (40% of role)
  • Provide high quality metallurgical analysis and reports for our global internal and external customers (40% of role)
  • Design, coordinate, conduct and report on melt cleanliness trials at highly strategic customer sites to demonstrate aluminium process improvements, as appropriate
  • Provide metallurgical services to help support internal R&D activities

Requirements:

  • Materials analytical skills
  • Metallographic preparation and associated light microscopy
  • Excellent optical and scanning electron microscopy skills (SEM/EDS/EDX)
  • Knowledge of metal cleanliness assessment techniques including PoDFA, Prefil and LiMCA
  • The ability and experience to perform Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA)
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to deliver technical services
