The Department of Psychiatry at the University of Rochester invites applications for a full time therapist position to join the Collaborative Care & Wellness Division and Department of Neurology. We are focused on expanding behavioral health supports for patients with neurological, neuropsychiatric, and somatic (i.e., functional neurological disorder) conditions. A key goal is having a therapist interested in supporting neurology patients with mental health support in a manner that is consistent with the biopsychosocial model. The mental health therapist will collaborate with psychiatrist, neurologists, surgeons, advanced practice providers, social workers, and others. The therapist provides short-term mental health services for individuals who have a diagnosable psychiatric condition, and functions as a specialized clinician responsible for assessment, consultation, treatment planning, and therapy/counseling. A successful candidate has expertise in evidence-based treatments, is interested in working with neurological and neuropsychiatric conditions, and is skilled at functioning within an interdisciplinary team.
Job Responsibility:
Performs complex psychosocial assessments and diagnostic formulations for patients when indicated
Ensures the development and implementation of comprehensive and individualized treatment plans for patients with clearly defined therapeutic goals
Conducts evidence-informed treatment with patients, and with families as necessary
Provides direct individual therapy to assigned patients
Meets minimum target for clinical productivity set by service director
Provides direct clinical evaluation services to assigned patients
Provides direct family therapy to assigned patients, including evaluation, individual, family therapy and crisis intervention
Provides direct crisis intervention to assigned patients
Assesses successful completion of therapeutic goals and plans termination of therapy accordingly
Participates collaboratively as a member of an interdisciplinary treatment team to provide coordinated care
Collaborates with referral sources and other professionals both internal and external throughout patient care activities
Coordinates with support staff regarding patient scheduling, fees, and insurance issues
Documents treatment in patient's electronic medical record in compliance with Program, Department and Hospital regulations
Attends new staff orientation as required
Participates in all required Departmental and programmatic diversity trainings and professional development
Maintains a thorough knowledge of, and follows, all Discipline, Collaborative Care Division, and Department of Psychiatry Mental Health and Wellness Services policies and procedures
Maintains professional standards and continuing education by reading, attending seminars, workshops and conferences, and staying up to date for the NYS requirements for maintenance of licensure
Engages in annual and periodic performance review process.
Requirements:
Master's degree from a Counsel for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Education Programs (CACREP) accredited program with major course work in mental health counseling
Or equivalent combination of education and experience
Knowledge about and ability to implement evidence-informed psychotherapeutic interventions
Commitment to and routine demonstration of biopsychosocial approach to care of individuals and families
Dedication to delivering a team-based integrated model of care
Demonstrates cultural humility and anti-racism values and works toward ensuring all patients feel welcome
NYS licensure as a mental health practitioner (e.g., Mental Health Counselor, Creative Arts Therapist) upon hire required
Or if licensure has not been obtained upon employment, an active limited permit or submitted application to the NYS Department of Education. upon hire required
NYS licensure as a mental health practitioner (e.g., Mental Health Counselor, Creative Arts Therapist) within 36 months required.
