We are seeking a compassionate, motivated, and experienced Mental Health Support Practitioner to join our educational team in Horsham. This rewarding role involves supporting children and young people who may be experiencing emotional, behavioural, or mental health challenges, helping them to access education, build resilience, and achieve positive outcomes. Working closely with students, families, teaching staff, and external agencies, you will play a key role in promoting wellbeing, early intervention, and emotional support within the education environment.
Job Responsibility
Provide one-to-one and small-group emotional wellbeing support to students.
Identify and respond appropriately to mental health concerns and safeguarding issues.
Develop and implement support plans tailored to individual student needs.
Work collaboratively with teachers, pastoral teams, parents/carers, and external professionals.
Support students in developing coping strategies, emotional regulation skills, and positive relationships.
Maintain accurate records, reports, and case notes in line with organisational policies.
Contribute to a positive, inclusive, and supportive learning environment.
Promote mental health awareness and wellbeing initiatives across the setting.
Requirements
Experience working with children and young people within education, mental health, youth work, social care, or a related field.
A strong understanding of common mental health difficulties affecting young people.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills.
The ability to work independently while contributing effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Knowledge of safeguarding procedures and professional boundaries.
A calm, empathetic, and solution-focused approach.
Nice to have
Qualification in Mental Health, Psychology, Counselling, Youth Work, Social Care, Education, or a related discipline.
Experience supporting young people with anxiety, depression, trauma, behavioural needs, or additional learning needs.
Training in safeguarding, mental health first aid, counselling skills, or therapeutic interventions.
