Job Description

Tameside Adult Social Care is seeking three experienced Mental Health Social Workers to join our dedicated and supportive team. We are particularly keen to hear from Approved Mental Health Professionals (AMHPs), although we also welcome applications from experienced Mental Health Social Workers who would like to develop towards AMHP qualification in the future. This is an exciting opportunity to work within a progressive service that values person-centred practice, professional development, and strong partnership working across health and social care.

Job Responsibility

  • Work collaboratively with health colleagues and partner agencies to deliver high-quality, needs-led support
  • Complete Care Act assessments and develop clear, person-centred support plans
  • Prepare and submit funding applications and supporting documentation
  • Undertake complex legal and statutory work, including CoPDoL applications, DoLS, Section 21A challenges, and court reports
  • Build meaningful relationships with individuals who may be considered difficult to engage and work effectively with their families and support networks
  • Support unpaid carers through assessment and intervention under the Care Act
  • Work with young people transitioning from Children's Services into Adult Mental Health Services
  • Promote recovery, independence, and strengths-based approaches in all aspects of practice
  • Contribute to a responsive six-day service, predominantly Monday to Friday with occasional Saturday working

Requirements

  • A recognised Social Work qualification
  • Registration with Social Work England
  • A minimum of 2 years' post-qualification experience
  • Experience working within Mental Health Services
  • Strong knowledge of relevant legislation, including the Care Act, Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act, and safeguarding frameworks
  • Excellent communication, assessment, and partnership-working skills
  • A commitment to delivering high-quality, person-centred social work practice

Nice to have

  • AMHP qualification is highly desirable
  • For candidates who are not currently AMHP qualified, Tameside is committed to investing in staff development and can offer opportunities to undertake AMHP training in the future
