Job Description

Service Manager – Mental Health Supported Living. Unfold Support provides specialist supported living services for adults with complex mental health needs, including individuals who may present with challenging behaviour, emotional dysregulation, and risks relating to self harm or safeguarding. Our approach is trauma informed, person centred, and recovery focused, supporting individuals to develop independence, stability, and improved wellbeing while living safely within the community. We are seeking an experienced Mental Health Service Manager to lead our supported living services in and around the Rochdale area, supporting individuals with complex mental health needs and behaviours that challenge services. You will be responsible for ensuring the safe, therapeutic, and high quality delivery of care, leading a team supporting individuals who may experience mental health crises, self harming behaviours, safeguarding risks, and complex emotional or behavioural needs. Reporting to the Registered Manager, you will oversee day to day service operations, safeguarding oversight, staff leadership, and compliance with CQC standards. This role requires a confident leader with strong experience in mental health services, risk management, and safeguarding practices.

Job Responsibility

  • Lead the operational delivery of mental health supported living services, ensuring safe, person-centred and recovery focused care
  • Support individuals experiencing complex mental health needs, emotional distress, and behaviours that challenge, including managing risks associated with self harm or crisis situations
  • Ensure robust risk management strategies and care plans are implemented and regularly reviewed
  • Maintain appropriate staffing levels and ensure staff are trained in mental health support, de-escalation, trauma informed practice, and safeguarding
  • Build strong relationships with service users, families, NHS mental health teams, local authorities, and community partners
  • Oversee referrals, assessments, and support planning, ensuring individuals receive the appropriate level of support
  • Participate in the on call rota and provide leadership during incidents or crisis situations
  • Lead and oversee safeguarding investigations and reporting, ensuring compliance with local authority safeguarding procedures
  • Manage incidents involving self harm, high risk behaviours, or safeguarding concerns, ensuring appropriate responses and learning outcomes
  • Ensure staff follow robust risk management, incident reporting, and escalation processes
  • Promote a culture of safety, accountability, and reflective practice
  • Ensure full compliance with CQC regulations, safeguarding legislation, and mental health best practice standards
  • Maintain accurate care documentation, incident reports, and quality assurance audits
  • Monitor service performance and implement improvements to maintain high quality service delivery
  • Provide leadership, supervision, and support to team leaders and support staff working with individuals with complex mental health needs
  • Ensure staff receive appropriate training in mental health support, behaviour management, and safeguarding practices
  • Foster a supportive team culture that promotes professional development, resilience, and reflective practice
  • Lead by example, promoting compassionate, trauma-informed care
  • Monitor service performance against KPIs, budgets, and quality standards
  • Identify opportunities to improve service delivery and outcomes for individuals with complex mental health needs

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a Service Manager or Deputy Manager within mental health or supported living services
  • Strong knowledge of CQC regulations, safeguarding procedures, and mental health best practice
  • Experience supporting individuals with complex mental health needs, behaviours that challenge, or risks related to self-harm
  • Demonstrable experience managing safeguarding concerns and high risk incidents
  • Excellent leadership, organisational, and communication skills
  • Level 3 Diploma/NVQ in Leadership for Health & Social Care (or equivalent)
  • Flexible approach to working hours, including participation in on call duties
  • Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle

  • Monitor, check and contact the Physical Health Check team members at end of day, following clinical home visits to ensure all members are safe and report any concerns to MHS Head of Service
  • Support the Mental Health Service Physical Health Check department, with performance data collection
  • Check and maintain relevant Invicta Health NHS email accounts, acknowledging and responding to correspondence in a timely manner
