Job Description

Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of people with mental illness? We're looking for a dedicated and skilled Mental Health Officer to join the team in the beautiful region of Argyll and Bute covering Oban, Lorn and the Isles.

Job Responsibility

  • Provide a specialist mental health social work service to individuals in hospital and collaborate with other agencies to ensure a smooth transition to community-based care upon discharge
  • Undertake comprehensive care management duties for people with mental illness, assessing their needs and coordinating appropriate support
  • Fulfil statutory mental health officer duties under mental health, incapacity, and criminal justice legislation, ensuring all legal requirements are met
  • Work collaboratively with health services and other agencies to deliver a coordinated and holistic approach to care

Requirements

  • A recognised Social Work qualification (e.g., BA/MA in Social Work, DipSW)
  • Qualified Mental Health Officer
  • Registration with the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC)
  • A full driving licence and access to a vehicle

  • Preparing high-quality, evidence-based reports for the relevant authorities, clearly articulating findings and recommendations
  • Managing the process for the renewal of Guardianship Orders, ensuring all necessary documentation and procedures are followed within statutory timescales
  • Working collaboratively with the individual, their named person, and other stakeholders to ensure their views and wishes are central to the review and renewal process
  • Providing information and support to individuals subject to Guardianship Orders and their families
