The chief objective of the Program Manager position is to serve as the primary university-based liaison between Old Dominion University (ODU) and the Maritime Engineering and Environmental Studies Academy (MEESA) Lab School. This position is responsible for developing and coordinating recruitment strategies; leading community and industry outreach by identifying, cultivating, and sustaining partnerships; facilitating university-level mentorships; and supporting the academy’s mission to provide experiential learning in maritime engineering, environmental studies, and applied global logistics. This role is designed to function as an ODU partner support position that connects university resources, expertise, and postsecondary pathways to the MEESA program. The Program Manager plays a critical role in bridging K–12 education with higher education and workforce opportunities.
Job Responsibility:
Serve as the primary university-based liaison between Old Dominion University (ODU) and the Maritime Engineering and Environmental Studies Academy (MEESA) Lab School
Develop and coordinate recruitment strategies
Lead community and industry outreach by identifying, cultivating, and sustaining partnerships
Facilitate university-level mentorships
Support the academy’s mission to provide experiential learning in maritime engineering, environmental studies, and applied global logistics
Connect university resources, expertise, and postsecondary pathways to the MEESA program
Bridge K–12 education with higher education and workforce opportunities
Requirements:
Master’s degree in education, business, or a related field
or a bachelor’s degree in education, business, or a related field with experience equivalent to a master’s degree
Considerable knowledge of higher education environments
Demonstrated experience with event planning, project management, and collaborative team-based work
Working knowledge of laboratory schools
Working knowledge of and experience with K–12 school systems, including secondary schools
Demonstrated experience cultivating and sustaining partnerships with industry, community, or workforce organizations
Strong written and oral communication skills with excellent organizational and interpersonal abilities
Proficiency in brand development and creative program development
Proficiency working in a virtual environment, including experience with online collaboration tools
Ability to establish and maintain effective professional working relationships
Nice to have:
Background in Maritime, Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related STEM field
Familiarity with global logistics, supply chain concepts, or maritime trade is a plus
Considerable experience working in or with K–12 education settings, higher education, or community-based learning environments
Demonstrated experience designing or supporting experiential learning models, including case-based, problem-based, or project-based learning
Working knowledge of design thinking processes and experience applying them in educational, research, or workforce contexts
Some experience collaborating with educators, faculty, or program leaders to support instructional innovation
Some experience supporting student recruitment, outreach, or pathway development is preferred
Willingness and eagerness to learn, adapt, and grow as part of a collaborative lab school team
