Performs laboratory analysis on received specimens, providing clinical information for diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of diseases. Responsible for overall quality, efficiency, and safety in the performance of assigned technical duties.
Job Responsibility:
Performs laboratory analysis on received specimens, providing clinical information for diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of diseases
Performs, reviews, and reports complex laboratory tests in accordance with prescribed procedures according to standards set by FDA, CAP, AABB, GDHR and The Joint Commission
Effectively processes workload in a timely manner, organizes workstation, operates, and maintains equipment in assigned area
Correctly analyzes, performs maintenance, correctly troubleshoots all testing and QC problems following standard laboratory operating procedures
Knowledgeable of Laboratory Information System and computer downtime procedure
Consults with technical lead, clinical specialist, supervisor, manager, or pathologist, when necessary, on unusual or abnormal results
Prepares reagents, maintains an adequate supply of materials for test procedures and manages inventory to effectively reduce departmental waste/expense
Assists in teaching students in the assigned areas as well as training and orientation of new employees
Assists in specimen collection as necessary and carries out measures to ensure chemical and biohazardous safety
Submits supply requests for weekly and monthly orders as assigned
Assists in special projects and other duties as assigned
Supports and maintains a positive work environment following lab and hospital procedures
Maintains confidentiality
Communicates effectively with peers
Demonstrates principles of Operation Excellence when dealing with other departments
Adapts a change and modifies work schedule or assignment as needed to benefit department
Requirements:
Registration as a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MT, MLS, CLT, CLS) by the Board of Registry as ASCP, AMT, AAB (AAB with 15yrs.experience), NCA, HHS certification or equivalent
Must be a High School or GED Diploma Graduate
Baccalaureate degree from accredited college or university to include minimum of 30 quarter hours of lecture science, including at least 15 quarter hours of chemistry, 10 quarter hours of biology and 5 quarter hours of math
