We are looking for a Medical Scheduler to support patient access and appointment coordination for a healthcare organization in Michigan. This contract opportunity is ideal for someone who is comfortable working in a fast-paced medical setting, managing patient information accurately, and delivering a high level of service over the phone and through scheduling systems. The person in this role will help patients navigate appointment needs, insurance-related requirements, and pre-registration steps while maintaining accuracy and consistency throughout each interaction.
Job Responsibility
Coordinate new, rescheduled, and canceled appointments through the organization's scheduling platform while ensuring calendar accuracy
Gather and confirm patient demographic, insurance, and financial details needed for registration, billing, and payer compliance
Review pre-registration information for completeness, document updates, and scan required records into the appropriate systems
Perform insurance eligibility checks in real time and explain coverage-related requirements such as referrals, pre-certifications, and authorizations to patients
Communicate appointment reminders, confirmations, and preparation instructions so patients are informed before their visit
Manage inbound and outbound calls effectively, helping patients access services efficiently while supporting a positive customer experience
Maintain courteous, attentive interactions that align with departmental service standards and healthcare privacy expectations
Assist with additional scheduling, registration, and administrative tasks as needed to support daily operations
Requirements
At least 2 years of experience in a medical office, patient access, scheduling, or a similar healthcare support role
Background working with third-party insurance, managed care processes, and medical terminology, including familiarity with diagnosis and procedure coding concepts
Ability to use Microsoft Office applications and healthcare-related systems such as electronic scheduling, eligibility verification, and electronic health record platforms
Strong attention to detail with the ability to review, interpret, and explain information accurately in a high-volume environment
Effective multitasking and problem-solving skills with the ability to adapt to changing priorities throughout the day
Clear verbal and written communication skills with a consistent, courteous approach to patients, staff, and external contacts
Ability to work independently while also collaborating productively with team members in a healthcare setting
