Fixed Term full time role as a Grade 1 Medical Physics Trainee. Austin Health is the major provider of tertiary health services, health professional education and research across three campuses in the north-east of Melbourne and statewide. The Department of Molecular Imaging and Therapy (MIT) operates at both the Austin and the Heidelberg Repatriation Hospitals and has four core service components, Nuclear Medicine imaging, Radionuclide therapy, Positron Emission Tomography (PET), and Bone Densitometry. As a Medical Physics Trainee you will be closely supervised by accredited DIMP / NM physicists and gradually take on greater responsibilities in clinical support activities as your experience develops. In addition to the supervision provided by Austin Health DIMP/NM’s, you will receive routine external assessments that are managed by the ACPSEM.
Job Responsibility:
Undertake the ACPSEM Training and Education Accreditation Program (TEAP) in Diagnostic Imaging Medical Physics (DIMP) in the Nuclear Medicine sub-specialty
Gain experience in Molecular Imaging equipment quality control / assurance procedures, clinical scanning study protocols and management of radiation safety procedures
Participate in the provision of clinical Nuclear Medicine, PET scans, and BMD scans, including imaging patients in radiation therapy planning position
Participate in Oncology and Neurology research scans
Participate in Therapeutic procedures
Laboratory work including radiopharmaceutical preparation, haematological and radioimmunoassay
Contribute to discussions around clinical operations, staff development, research projects and accreditation efforts
Play a significant role in the department’s Oncology and Neuroscience program
Possible opportunities to train in PACS administration, and contribute to the Quality Management Framework within the department
Requirements:
Masters in Medical Physics from an ACPSEM approved University course
Bachelor of Science with a physics / maths major or equivalent will be considered
Eligibility for membership with ACPSEM
Excellent interpersonal, communication and collaboration skills
