Job Description

Medical Oncology coverage needed in Wyoming for clinic and call. Starting ASAP and ongoing. Monday–Friday schedule, 7:30 AM–4:30 PM. Case mix is about 60% Hematology / 40% Oncology. Well-equipped cancer center with on-site infusion services. Epic EMR with Abridge AI for note capture.

Job Responsibility

  • Clinic and call
  • Outpatient-focused practice
  • Average 14 patients per day
  • 2–4 new consults daily
  • Phone-only call approximately 1 week per month
  • Full-spectrum Hematology/Oncology care

  • For hospital, routes to billing charge entry errors and/or account edits preventing completion of coding and/or billing
  • Makes appropriate coding corrections, when advised, and follows procedure to notify billing
  • May assign and sequence basic CPT (Current Procedural Terminology) procedure codes (non-complex), and modifiers based on medical record documentation in accordance with Official Coding Guidelines, CMS regulations, Local Medical Review Policy (LMRP) guidance in encoder software and/or department coding policies and procedures
  • Using encoder, reviews Ambulatory Payment Classifications (APC) and Enhanced Ambulatory Patient Groups (EAPG) assignments
  • Reviews Local Coverage Determination (LCD) edits and guidance for codes meeting medical necessity
  • Researches medical record for any additional diagnoses documented to meet medical necessity
  • Reviews and validates the accuracy of data in the Admission, Discharge Transfer (ADT) fields following HIM coding procedures and processes

  • Responds to all requests for information and referrals from hospital personnel and obtains the Election of Benefits for hospice enrollment of eligible patients.
  • Gathers clinical information that is used in eligibility determinations, utilizing the Hospice Conditions of Participation, Hospice Local Coverage Determinations (LCDs), and state and federal regulations.
  • Coordinates effective symptom management for patients awaiting hospital discharge to home hospice with referring physicians and hospital case management/SW staff.
  • Serves as the RN member of the Inpatient Hospice Interdisciplinary Team (IDT), providing daily coordination of hospice care for patients admitted to General Inpatient level of care (GIP).
  • Develops the hospice nursing plan of care and makes recommendations for services based on patient/family needs.
  • Participates in Interdisciplinary Team Meetings (IDT) on a weekly basis and GIP Huddle on a daily basis to communicate information about patients’ status.
  • Coordinates the transition plan for patients who no longer qualify for the inpatient level of care.
  • Conducts oversight of clinical care provided by hospital staff and provides education about the provision of hospice care to staff providing direct care to GIP patients.
  • Maintains accurate and current documentation reflecting hospice nursing assessments and interventions.
