Job Description

Medical Laboratory Scientist Trainee - Chantilly, VA, Tuesday to Saturday, 4:00 PM to 12:30 AM. Department - Clinical Laboratory - Clinical Toxicology. Perform assigned test procedures of moderate/high complexity under the supervision of senior laboratory personnel in those specialties in which they are qualified by education, training and experience.

Job Responsibility

  • Perform assigned analytical tests under the direction of senior laboratory personnel in accordance with SOPs ensuring quality control
  • Actively support and comply with laboratory policies and procedures
  • Adhere to analytical schedules to maintain turnaround time
  • Ensure test systems are 'in control'
  • Inform supervisory personnel of problems
  • Report deviations from standard procedures
  • Maintain laboratory areas and equipment in safe, functional, sanitary condition
  • Adhere to CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA, and laboratory safety requirements
  • Use personal protective equipment and engineering controls as directed
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • BS/BA in Medical Technology, Chemistry or Biology, or qualifies as a Technologist under 42 CFR § 493.1489
  • Foreign educated candidates must provide a detailed credential evaluation from NACES or AICE
  • Ability to stand and work at the bench for long periods of time
  • Lifting and carrying objects up to 50 pounds
  • Frequent walking and/or standing
  • Manual dexterity for pipettes and laboratory instruments
  • Theoretical and operational job knowledge in designated specialty
  • Knowledge of organizational/departmental policies and procedures
  • Must be detail-oriented, ability to work independently, establish work priorities and handle several tasks simultaneously
  • Interpersonal skills to deal courteously and effectively with supervisors, co-workers and clients
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Outlook)
  • Communication skills to handle telephone inquiries
  • Ability to deal with client information confidentially
