Follows laboratory policies and procedures to perform high and moderate complexity testing. Performs pre-analytical and post-analytical laboratory support functions. Demonstrates clear communication with team members to optimize laboratory operations.
Job Responsibility:
Accurately and efficiently performs pre-analytical, analytical and post analytical processes for laboratory testing
Maintains and troubleshoots laboratory equipment according to manufacturer’s instructions
Performs and evaluates all required quality control assessments as described in departmental policies and procedures prior to reporting patient results
Maintains and demonstrates competency assessment in assigned area
Completes all assigned mandatory assignments within allowed timelines
Collaborates with the laboratory supervisor to ensure laboratory compliance with all regulatory agencies by established standards
Trains students and new team members, and is a resource for other technical team members
Assesses competency of team members as assigned
Leads departmental projects
Monitors compliance to accreditation and regulatory checklist items
Serves as an escalation for issues that arise with team members, and internal and external clientele
Ensures quality control and quality assurance program appropriate for the testing performed and that parameters for acceptable levels of analytical performance are maintained throughout the entire testing process through pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical phases
Initiates and maintains positive relationships with patients, customers, co-workers
Is an expert in one laboratory section/discipline
Maintains knowledge of relevant checklists through active participation in inspection process
Understands test validation methods and participates in the process
Ability to effectively guide team members to improve job performance and departmental cooperation
Has a thorough understanding of CAP regulations and checklists
Requirements:
Bachelor’s Degree in a chemical, biological or clinical laboratory science or medical technology from an accredited institution
Bachelor’s Degree in other field and Associate’s Degree in clinical laboratory science and certification by ASCP or equivalent are also acceptable
3+ years experience in a highly complex laboratory setting within defined clinical disciplines i.e. Chemistry, Hematology, Coagulation, Urinalysis, Molecular, Microbiology, Histology, Cytology, etc.
Medical Lab Technician (MLT-ASCP) or Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS-ASCP) or Medical Technologist (MT-ASCP) (Required Upon Hire)
