Job Description:

Follows laboratory policies and procedures to perform high and moderate complexity testing. Performs pre-analytical and post-analytical laboratory support functions. Demonstrates clear communication with team members to optimize laboratory operations.

Job Responsibility:

  • Accurately and efficiently performs pre-analytical, analytical and post analytical processes for laboratory testing
  • Maintains and troubleshoots laboratory equipment according to manufacturer’s instructions
  • Performs and evaluates all required quality control assessments as described in departmental policies and procedures prior to reporting patient results
  • Maintains and demonstrates competency assessment in assigned area
  • Completes all assigned mandatory assignments within allowed timelines
  • Collaborates with the laboratory supervisor to ensure laboratory compliance with all regulatory agencies by established standards
  • Trains students and new team members, and is a resource for other technical team members
  • Assesses competency of team members as assigned
  • Leads departmental projects
  • Monitors compliance to accreditation and regulatory checklist items
  • Serves as an escalation for issues that arise with team members, and internal and external clientele
  • Ensures quality control and quality assurance program appropriate for the testing performed and that parameters for acceptable levels of analytical performance are maintained throughout the entire testing process through pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical phases
  • Initiates and maintains positive relationships with patients, customers, co-workers
  • Is an expert in one laboratory section/discipline
  • Maintains knowledge of relevant checklists through active participation in inspection process
  • Understands test validation methods and participates in the process
  • Ability to effectively guide team members to improve job performance and departmental cooperation
  • Has a thorough understanding of CAP regulations and checklists

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a chemical, biological or clinical laboratory science or medical technology from an accredited institution
  • Bachelor’s Degree in other field and Associate’s Degree in clinical laboratory science and certification by ASCP or equivalent are also acceptable
  • 3+ years experience in a highly complex laboratory setting within defined clinical disciplines i.e. Chemistry, Hematology, Coagulation, Urinalysis, Molecular, Microbiology, Histology, Cytology, etc.
  • Medical Lab Technician (MLT-ASCP) or Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS-ASCP) or Medical Technologist (MT-ASCP) (Required Upon Hire)
