Performs diagnostic testing following standardized procedures on patient samples, which aids physicians in the diagnosis and/or monitoring of various disease states. Resolves problems and interprets results as to accuracy, acceptability, and critical limits.
Job Responsibility:
Processes specimens and performs testing
exercises judgment, evaluating test results with minimal guidance
Meets expected turnaround time for test results
Recognizes abnormal or unusual test results and determines course of action following predetermined criteria prior to reporting results
Performs, records and evaluates quality control results and implements corrective action as appropriate
Operates, maintains and troubleshoots instrumentation and equipment, correcting any malfunctions
Documents and communicates technical and general information to appropriate individuals
Ensures that adequate supplies and reagents are available to perform the required testing
Assists in researching and evaluating new methods, procedures or equipment
Participates in special projects and may help write procedures
Trains other personnel in policies, procedures and protocols relating to their job duties
provides documentation as necessary
Communicates and interfaces with hospital personnel, patients, medical staff and family members to ensure high quality patient care
Communicates with coworkers, supervisors and management in a professional manner regarding work-related issues
Adheres to TMC organizational and department-specific safety, confidentiality, values, policies and standards
Performs related duties as assigned
Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in medical technology or related field, or military or other education that meets requirements for certification as a Medical Technologist
Internship as a medical technologist or other comparable experience
Medical Technologist, registered or registry-eligible by a national certifying organization such as ASCP HEW, NCA, etc.
Knowledge of quality control test measurements and regulations regarding analyzing specimens
Skill in evaluating tests and identifying measures outside the norm, and whether any follow up testing might be required
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
Ability to complete routine reports and correspondence
Ability to listen and accurately interpret others’ communication or instructions to take appropriate action
Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization
Ability to calculate figures and compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs and apply basic algebraic concepts
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
