Baptist Medical Center is currently looking for a Microbiology Medical Lab Scientist II to join our Infectious Diagnostics department at Baptist Medical Center located in Jacksonville, Florida. This is a PRN opportunity working primarily day shifts with occasional as needed various shifts as needed. As a Medical Lab Scientist II at Baptist Health, you can expect to perform professional laboratory work following established clinic procedures and perform chemical and biological tests on patient specimens for medical diagnoses. Our Medical Technologists are skilled scientists whose main purpose is to perform tests to aid healthcare providers in both the diagnosis and treatments for disorders and diseases. This Medical Lab Scientist II will be responsible for running all laboratory instruments including the automated blood culture instruments. Rotation in areas of Microbiology and Molecular Pathology weekly is required within this position. This Medical Technologist will be receiving and processing specimens and will have the opportunity to work with an automated specimen processor and will be processing gram stains, performing stat molecular, susceptibility, and quality control testing as well as mycobacteria and fungus testing. This Medical Technologist must be comfortable working within a large team. This position requires extensive microbiology experience and a 4-6 week training period is required before operating independently. This candidate must have at least 2 - 4 years of experience in Microbiology as well as Molecular Pathology.
Job Responsibility
Perform professional laboratory work following established clinic procedures

Maintain expertise and perform technical, specimen collection/processing, LIS, general department, and clerical functions in one or more laboratory sections
Maintain records of performance as defined in the laboratory's general and sectional policy and procedure manuals
Maintain records of performance as defined in the SOP manuals
Instruct new employees and students
Perform all responsibilities of this job description without on-site supervision
Requirements
License or ability to obtain a license within the State of Florida as a Medical Technologist
At least 2 - 4 years of experience in Microbiology
At least 2 - 4 years of experience in Molecular Pathology
