Job Description:

Baptist Health is looking to add an experienced Medical Laboratory Assistant II to work at Baptist Medical Center Jacksonville, in the Infectious Diagnostics Department. This is a Full-time, Evenings, opportunity. This candidate will be working in our Microbiology Laboratory. This candidate will be performing specimen management and processing and will require experience within this area. This candidate should have comprehensive computer skills as well.

Job Responsibility:

  • Performing a variety of clerical and technical duties associated with the pre- and post-analytical handling of laboratory specimens and results
  • Communicating laboratory results and responding to specimen-related questions from physicians and various other caregivers
  • Collecting blood specimens for routine and special laboratory procedures
  • Utilizing computer functions

  • Performs rooming/visit tasks such as vital signs, medication reconciliation, medical history, health maintenance, allergy review, and screenings (depression, suicide, falls, social drivers of health, etc.)
  • Assists provider with or performs procedures as ordered
  • Performs lab related duties such as venipuncture, specimen collection/labeling/packing, preparation of lab orders/requisitions, and results tracking
  • Administers medications and vaccines safely following the rights of medication administration
  • Performs other duties as assigned such as medication refills, insurance authorizations, safety/regulatory log completion, patient messaging, medication/supply ordering, appointment scheduling, and referrals
  • Demonstrates effective and timely communication, teamwork, and appropriate escalation
  • Maintains a clean work environment ensuring instruments and equipment are cleaned appropriately
  • Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served
