Job Description

We are looking for a certified Medical Illustrator to provide high-quality visual support for medical, scientific, and academic content in Houston, Texas. This Long-term Contract opportunity is ideal for someone who is detail oriented and can translate complex healthcare concepts into clear, accurate illustrations for publications, journals, digital platforms, and documentation. The role supports a busy creative environment with growing demand and requires close collaboration with faculty, department stakeholders, and an internal review team to ensure every deliverable meets established standards.

Job Responsibility

  • Produce medically accurate illustrations for academic publications, journal submissions, website materials, and clinical or scientific documentation
  • Manage assigned projects from concept through final artwork while balancing overflow requests and newly initiated illustration needs
  • Partner with faculty members, department contacts, and creative stakeholders to understand subject matter and visual objectives
  • Apply institutional style expectations and content standards to all deliverables, incorporating feedback through a structured quality review process
  • Develop digital artwork using industry-standard illustration tools across 2D, vector, and other appropriate visual formats
  • Revise and refine visuals based on reviewer input to ensure consistency, precision, and readiness for end-user delivery
  • Support multiple concurrent projects in a remote setting while maintaining dependable communication during standard business hours
  • Contribute to a high-volume medical illustration workflow by helping expand production capacity for the internal team

Requirements

  • Certified Medical Illustrator credential is required
  • At least 3 years of experience creating medical or scientific illustrations
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating accurate and visually compelling healthcare-related illustration work
  • Proficiency with Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Creative Cloud
  • Hands-on experience with digital, vector, and 2D illustration, with 3D illustration capability considered valuable
  • Ability to interpret complex medical information and convert it into clear visual communication
  • Comfortable working within detailed brand, copy, and quality control guidelines
  • Experience collaborating with healthcare, academic, or scientific teams is preferred
