Provides support to Clinical providers for the provision of direct patient care in a Family Medicine setting. Schedule is Monday through Friday 7:30 am to 4:30 pm.
Job Responsibility:
Provides support to Clinical providers for the provision of direct patient care
Admits patient to examination room, interviews patient, documents chief complaint
Monitors and documents patient vitals signs
Notifies nurse practitioner or physicians of findings as appropriate
Assists with transport of patients
Assists nurse practitioner or physicians with treatments, diagnostic tests and procedures
Prepares and maintains examination and treatment area
Assists patient with changing into a gown and onto the exam table
Prepares patient for examination by explaining their visit/procedure
Assists with discharge as directed by the RN or physician
Orient patients to physical setting and emergency procedures
Assure all documents are in chart upon patient discharge
Sets up equipment and supplies needed for procedures and diagnostic tests
Anticipates the need for and completes all documentation necessary to ensure quality care
Accurately performs and maintains practice site quality control logs for CLIA certification
Assists the nurse practitioner in maintaining the test tracking log
Performs immunizations and other injections as specified at the site
Aware of and correctly uses “triage protocols”
Able to perform mini-registration and scheduling of patients
Functions as a liaison between the nurse practitioner and other medical ancillary’s
Communicate with pharmacies to order new/refill of medication
Communicates with other physicians or other ancillary medical staff to ensure continuity of care
Assists in setting up referrals for additional care
Promotes patient safety by reporting of issues through established channels and participating as requested in safety initiatives
Maintenance of work environment, including stocking of supplies and promotion of safe and clean work area and exam rooms
Restock supplies in exam rooms on a daily basis
Notify responsible person when additional supplies need to be ordered
Processes soiled linen for pick-up and distributing clean linen and disposable supplies and drapes
Assists with disinfecting/sterilization of instruments and for assuring proper instrument rotation
Organizes patient educational material
Handles patient confidential information to support quality of care, patient in-take and safety initiatives
Maintains confidentiality with regards to compliance with HIPAA guidelines and hospital and center requirements
Supports Quality Improvement by participating in the data collection and monitoring of chosen indicators
Retrieves medical records from the Medical Records department as well as the other locations as needed to expedite care
Files patient data in the medical records according to the hospital and department policy
assist with chart filing as needed
Pulls from computer system results of test and outside procedures
Assists with preparation of referral forms, clerical control and follow-up with patients
Schedules patients, enters charges or messages in the computer system to facilitate efficient and timely response to patient needs
Reinforce patient and family teaching
Prepares patient medical record for their scheduled appointment
Provide laboratory phlebotomy and processing services as per site control procedures to ensure optimal specimen integrity
Understands and determines the appropriate method of obtaining specimens
Obtains blood specimens using standard precautions by accurately performing heelsticks and fingersticks ensuring patient safety and satisfaction
Performs selected tests that assist with diagnosis and treatment (i.e., urine dip sticks, lead, and urine pregnancy)
Appropriately labels each specimen and delivers the specimens to appropriate laboratory area within an established timeframe
Documents completion of lab orders/specimens on the patient chart
Documents lab results and test results appropriately according to department policy
Determines appropriate processing lab based on insurance and managed care guidelines
Batches all information with specimen for pick-up by processing lab if necessary
Print lab reports and distribute according to policy
Appropriately notifies clinical staff of patients experiencing untoward clinical symptoms
Submits appropriate consents and forms required for appropriate billing
Promotes patient safety by reporting issues through established channels and participating as requested in safety initiatives
Performs basic clerical support for the office which includes completion of patient forms and handling of patient and non-patient office work
Completes forms, surveys and questionnaires
Faxing in accordance with HIPAA/ Confidentiality and departmental guidelines
Support telephone answering functions for business purposes and communication with patients, follow-up on scheduling, appointment changes
Handles mail as assigned
Computer access duties as assigned
Maintain records to support office activities
Maintains medical record loose filing and re-filing of charts
Adheres to form standardization protocols
Files information into the patient’s medical record in the appropriate section only after obtaining any required signatures
Makes certain that the medical record and all relevant diagnostic reports are available
Perform all duties and responsibilities as the driver of the Ronald McDonald Van when needed
Environmental assignments (i.e. cleans refrigerators, countertops, as needed)
Fire Safety Drill participation
Inventory Controls
Pick up of offsite supplies or equipment
Pull trash on weekends and routinely if it overflows before house keeping service arrives
Requirements:
High School Diploma
Graduate of accredited Med Asst Cert/Reg program
Successful completion of Med Asst Cert/Reg certification exam
2-3 years experience in ambulatory/medical office
Ability to use computer for printing results and access patient information
Clinically appropriate skills
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in a caring manner
Strong interpersonal and customer relations skills
Med Asst Cert/Reg certification
Current CPR certification
Current CDL License or willing to be trained
Ability to travel to schools and facilities within the southland area
Ability to work within stressful conditions and difficult situations
Resilient and flexible in a changing environment
Ability to cooperate and work with others
Ability to make sound and timely decisions
Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance
