Job Description

The Medical Assistant (MA) provides a full range of Medical Assistant duties and support as part of the patient medical care team. The Medical Assistant works under the clinical direction of the physician, and has a direct reporting relationship to the Office/Site Manager.

Job Responsibility

  • collecting patient vital signs

  • documentation in the electronic medical record (EHR)
  • maintaining patient flow
  • stocking exam rooms
  • assisting with procedures and treatments
  • communicating with efficiency
  • verifying that lab, x-ray or procedure reports are available for provider
  • accurately performs required computer functions including medication reconciliation, coding of medical and laboratory procedures, order entry and scheduling of appointments
  • may assist the provider with appropriate patient education and communication to individuals including pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients
  • Travel within a five county radius and a flexible schedule is required

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED from an accredited institution
  • Medical Assisting diploma/certificate from a nationally recognized accredited institute or program
  • or Graduate from an accredited practical nursing program with valid applicable state license (LPN)
  • or Successful completion of a formal medical services training program of the United States Armed Forces
  • or In lieu of a Medical Assisting diploma/certificate, 1-2 years of verifiable Medical Assisting work experience is required along with a current certification
  • Medical Assistant (MA) certification received from a nationally recognized and accredited certifying body, upon hire, or by the completion of a probationary period
  • A new graduate of a Medical Assisting program must obtain one of the above nationally recognized certifications within 90 days of hire

  • Assists providers with exams and minor in office procedures, limited to setting up trays and assisting high accommodations and cleanup, and acts as a chaperone as needed
  • Performs a variety of office-based testing and treatments related to patient care under the supervision of a clinician, including but not limited to EKG testing procedure, set up as needed
  • Use universal sterile techniques and personal protective equipment as always needed to ensure compliance with OHA regulations
  • Coordinates and manages patient care including pre-certifications, referrals, authorizations, prescriptions and scheduling of patients for clinic, hospital and other ancillary medical treatments and tests
  • Responsible for communicating test results, patient instruction regarding durable medical equipment and home exercise programs to patients, where directed
  • Acts as a resource to clinical and non-clinical staff to provide optimal patient care
  • Provides clerical support with patient/client notification and documentation, to include but not limited to complete medical records including labs, authorizations, X-Rays, hospital records and any previous care pertaining to each patient visit
