The Division of Business and Community Services at Holyoke Community College is seeking part-time instructors to teach in an innovative, intensive 5-month noncredit Medical Assistant training program for a local employer. Students will be paid employees taking 32 hours per week of classwork. Instructors will prepare students to take and pass the RMA exam. With assistance, instructors will develop curricula and plan course content, provide lectures and hands-on instruction, and evaluate training effectiveness so that students learn the specific skill sets and knowledge needed to obtain certification and to pursue a career as a Medical Assistant.
Job Responsibility:
Develop curricula and plan course content
Provide lectures and hands-on instruction
Evaluate training effectiveness
Prepare students to take and pass the RMA exam
Keep current and accurate attendance, grades, and records
Spend 1-2 hours per cohort coordinating with the team
Ensure courses are aligned with the knowledge and skills required for the AMT RMA credential
Requirements:
The ability to teach courses in person in Holyoke, daytime, Tuesday - Friday, at the HCC Center for Health Education
Prior healthcare teaching educational experience - with Medical Assisting content
Commitment to, and demonstrated ability to, work effectively with a diverse faculty, staff & student body
Knowledge and experience using active learning methods and using a variety of instructional strategies designed to assist the learner in meeting the objectives of the course
The instructor will arrange for the acquisition and preparation of appropriate materials and equipment in a timely manner necessary to meet course objectives in collaboration with the program coordinator
Instructors are expected to be prompt and accurate in the recording and reporting of student data including assessment of student performance, including final grade reports
Instructors are expected to be supportive of students' learning goals
Instructors are expected to make reasonable provisions to accommodate individual differences
Instructors are expected to maintain the academic integrity of the college
Instructors are expected to make himself/herself available to assist students in achieving their learning goals
Instructors are expected to attend all scheduled classes
Bachelor’s Degree in healthcare field, and relevant industry Certifications and experience
Nice to have:
Experience as a practicing Medical Assistant
Experience teaching related coursework
Experience teaching in a Workforce Development program
Experience with a Learning Management System, such as Canvas or Moodle
Master’s degree in healthcare, adult education or similar field
Experience teaching first generation college students
Experience working with diverse adult student populations
