Job Description

The Medical Assistant Lead assumes a supportive role and has responsibility and accountability for facilitating, communicating, and collaborating with both the healthcare team, and the patient/family to identify and meet the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of the patient.

Job Responsibility

  • Demonstrates personal accountability for relationship-based care, organizational mission, and core values. Provides direct patient care.
  • Responsible for leading and providing front line staff support as it relates to day-to-day clinical operations. This includes, but is not limited to the delegation of duties to office staff as assigned, management of operational issues, assurance that staff adhere to clinic quality, regulatory, billing, and customer service standards, and the provision of staff duties.
  • Individual will serve as point of contact for any issue in the daily operation of the clinic and will assess, resolve and/or escalate to Clinic Supervisor and/or Assistant Administrator as appropriate.

Requirements

  • High School Degree or Equivalent required
  • Diploma from an accredited medical assistant's program and externship completed is preferred
  • Current Certification as a Certified Medical Assistant or Certified Clinical Medical Assistant required
  • BLS for healthcare providers from the American Heart Association required
  • One year experience preferred
  • Clinical skills and knowledge base specific to specialty

Nice to have

  • One year experience preferred
  • Diploma from an accredited medical assistant's program and externship completed is preferred

  • Performs laboratory procedures using principles of aseptic technique and standard precautions/infection control guidelines
  • Assists the Physician/ Advanced Practice Clinician (APC) with procedures such as pelvic exams, allergy scratch testing, EMG, cautery, colposcopy, etc
  • Administers routine medications, under Physician/ APC orders or medical group approved standing orders/protocols
  • Follows through with necessary procedure or test requests, pre-approved care algorithms, new appointment times and referrals to other facilities or services
  • Communicates with Physician/APC and other members of the health care team to ensure smooth clinic flow and adjusts as necessary
  • Effectively communicates accurate and timely information with the patient
  • May perform basic and advanced clinical support tasks or skills based on the specialty and appropriate competencies such as removal of sutures and staples, laboratory procedures, phlebotomy, EKG, spirometry, Holter monitor application, prescription refills using approved protocols, etc., under clinical supervision
  • Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served
