Department: 01224 WFBMG University Group Practice: Winston Salem Country Club Med Plz - Internal Medicine: University Internal Medicine Provider Based Clinic. Status: Full time. Benefits Eligible: Yes. Hours Per Week: 40. Schedule Details/Additional Information: Monday - Friday, 8am-5pm; No weekends, No call.

Job Responsibility:

  • Adheres to Medical Assistant scope of practice, follows all policies and procedures, and maintains training and competency based on area of specialty when providing patient care
  • Performs rooming/visit tasks such as vital signs, medication reconciliation, medical history, health maintenance, allergy review, and screenings (depression, suicide, falls, social drivers of health, etc.)
  • Assists provider with or performs procedures as ordered
  • Performs lab related duties such as venipuncture, specimen collection/labeling/packing, preparation of lab orders/requisitions, and results tracking
  • Point of Care testing (POCT) per standing order/provider order
  • Completes Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) approved waived laboratory tests and practice-specific diagnostic testing in adherence to CLIA standards
  • Administers medications and vaccines safely following the rights of medication administration
  • Performs other duties as assigned such as medication refills, insurance authorizations, safety/regulatory log completion, patient messaging, medication/supply ordering, appointment scheduling, and referrals
  • Demonstrates effective and timely communication, teamwork, and appropriate escalation
  • Maintains a clean work environment ensuring instruments and equipment are cleaned appropriately
  • Ensures equipment and supplies are in working order, and areas are appropriately stocked
  • May assist with training and onboarding of other teammates
  • May serve as a role champion or on a committee
  • Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served
  • Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the department's policies and procedures

Requirements:

  • Current American Heart Association (AHA) BLS certification required
  • Pediatric Emergency Assessment, Recognition, and Stabilization (PEARS) may be required within 1 year in select areas
  • Successful completion of Atrium Health’s competency assessment
  • Current Medical Assistant certification from one of the following is required: CMA from American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), CCMA from National Health career Association (NHA), NCMA from National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT), RMA from American Medical Technologists (AMT), RMA from American Allied Health, NCMSMA from National Healthcare Worker’s Association (NHCWA), NRCMA from National Association for Health Professionals (NAHP), NRMA from National Registry of Medical Assistants (NRMA)
  • Two years of experience in a clinical practice setting as a Medical Assistant
  • Ability to perform routine and complex technical skills, within the Medical Assistant scope of practice after demonstrated competency
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • Proficient computer skills including keyboarding, navigation within a windows operating system, and use of electronic mail with exposure to electronic medical records systems
  • Demonstrates customer service skills that support a positive patient experience
  • Must sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, twist, crawl, kneel, climb, and reach above shoulders throughout the workday
  • Ability to lift 35 pounds without assistance
  • Must have functional speech, vision, hearing, and touch with ability to use fine-hand manipulation skills
