Requirements

Minimum 1 year of experience in a cardiothoracic surgery setting
Minimum 6 months of second assist experience in cardiothoracic surgery
First assist experience in cardiothoracic surgery (1+ year strongly preferred)
Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program
Current NCCPA Board Certification required
Possession of or eligibility for a California medical license
Current ACLS certification
Active DEA registration

Job Responsibility

Assists the supervising surgeon in the operating room
Plays an integral role in the global management of patients undergoing cardiothoracic, vascular, or aortic surgery
Includes all aspects of peri-operative care from performing patient histories and daily rounds to invasive surgical procedures, including the critical retrieval of vascular tissue in coronary bypass procedures
Provides patient care expertise in the postoperative acute care units, step-down units and regular floors
First assist in the O.R., participate in aortic clinic, endovascular vein harvesting
Be part of one of the larger programs on the west coast for comprehensive aortic diagnosis and treatment

Bachelor’s degree in engineering in the biomedical field strongly preferred
Successful completion of a full Cardiac Device Educational Program OR one year’s experience in Electrophysiology is strongly preferred
1+ year in cardiac device clinic strongly preferred
Current BLS certification
HRS/NASPE certification preferred
Ability to perform independent judgement within the scope of this position
Strong patient assessment skills
Well-developed organizational skills to prioritize work
Advanced cardiac rhythm interpretation skills

Job Responsibility

Daily review and documentation of remote pacemakers, ICDs, and implantable loop recorders (ILRs) transmissions and alerts
Communicating all relevant changes in patient and device status to the supervising cardiologist/cardiac nurse practitioner in a timely manner
Managing patient data across remote monitoring systems
Supporting patients with transmissions, troubleshooting, and notification and scheduling of follow-ups and other administrative duties
Handling device recalls
Coordinating with industry representatives
Educating patients on device use and monitoring protocols
Maintaining clear, collaborative communication with the clinical team
