Job Description

Our client is seeking a detail-oriented Medical Administrative Assistant with prior experience in handling authorizations and pre-certifications for surgical procedures. The ideal candidate will be proficient in insurance verification, scheduling, and possess strong administrative and organizational skills to support doctors and patients in a surgical or specialty clinic.

Job Responsibility

  • Process and manage prior authorizations and pre-certifications for surgeries
  • Verify patient insurance coverage, benefits, and coordinate with payers to assure approvals for scheduled treatments
  • Schedule patient appointments, surgeries, and follow-ups, ensuring efficient workflow and accurate calendar management
  • Communicate effectively with patients, insurance companies, medical providers, and other clinic staff
  • Maintain detailed and accurate patient records in compliance with HIPAA and clinic policies
  • Prepare and submit documentation required for insurance claims and authorizations
  • Provide general administrative support including phone coverage, patient check-in/check-out, filing, faxing, and office correspondence
  • Assist with billing inquiries and act as a liaison between patients and the billing department to resolve issues promptly
  • Support neurosurgeons and clinical staff with logistics and necessary paperwork for pre- and post-surgical processes

Requirements

  • Previous experience in a medical administrative role, ideally supporting a surgical or specialty clinic
  • Demonstrated expertise in prior authorizations and pre-certifications for surgical procedures
  • Hands-on experience with insurance verification and benefits coordination
  • Strong scheduling, time management, and multitasking skills
  • Proficiency with medical practice management software and electronic health records (EHR)
  • Excellent communication, customer service, and organizational abilities
  • Familiarity with HIPAA compliance and patient confidentiality standards

Nice to have

  • Experience in neurological, orthopedic, or other specialty surgery clinic environments
  • Knowledge of major payers and insurance portals
