Job Description

Ballard Spahr LLP is seeking a highly qualified Associate to join our prestigious and growing Media and Entertainment Law Practice Group in Philadelphia. Our Litigation Department represents a wide range of local, national and international clients in all types of complex litigation. The firm is privileged to serve as regular litigation counsel to a variety of news organizations, digital and interactive media, book and magazine publishers, and entertainment companies. This is an excellent opportunity for professional growth in a national law firm with a collegial environment focused on attorney development.

Job Responsibility

  • Assist media and entertainment clients with content-related matters, including defamation, copyright, invasion of privacy, newsgathering, and issues arising from new technology
  • Represent clients in local, state and federal courts, at both the trial and appellate levels

Requirements

  • 3 to 5 years of experience
  • Experience in First Amendment matters, defamation litigation, and pre-publication review
  • Excellent research and writing skills
  • Active bar license in Pennsylvania, or the ability to waive in

  • Leading key sponsorship, media buying and marketing deals
  • Experience in the design, implementation and governance of technology-enabled transformation initiatives to support structured process optimisation and enhanced risk control across legal workflows
  • Technical knowledge and experience above to be based on English law contracts or equivalent (e.g. experience of the laws, and ideally contract principles, in a comparable legal system (including Common Law jurisdictions) with a similar legal framework to those found in contracts governed by English law
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, ability to work cross-functionally in a collegiate and professional manner, and willingness to support projects led by other teams and functions
