We are looking for a versatile Mechatronics Intern to join our R&D team. In this role, you will bridge the gap between the physical and the digital, ensuring that the Furhat robot is not just a smart computer, but a state-of-the-art electromechanical machine. This internship is focused on hardware innovation and integration. You will explore how the latest cutting-edge components—from sensors to actuators—can be integrated into our platform. You won’t just be maintaining existing hardware; you will be prototyping the next generation of solutions, requiring a fluid mix of mechanical design, electronics, and embedded programming.
Job Responsibility:
Hardware R&D: Research, compare, and test the latest electronic components and actuators to improve the robot's reliability, movement, and sensory capabilities
Embedded Systems & Firmware: Program microcontrollers to handle sensor data acquisition, motor control, and low-level signal processing
Electromechanical Integration: Design and prototype physical solutions (CAD) and custom circuits (PCB) to integrate new hardware features into the robot
System Integration: Work on interfacing low-level hardware with the robot’s high-level Linux architecture
User-Centric Prototyping: Apply an industrial design mindset to ensure that hardware improvements not only function well but also enhance the overall User Experience (UX) and aesthetic of the product
Requirements:
Student or enthusiast with a broad background in Mechatronics, Robotics, or both Mechanical and Electrical Engineering
Strong knowledge in Mechanical Design (CAD) and Electronics (Schematics/PCB)
Experience with Microcontroller programming (e.g., C/C++, Arduino, STM32) and Signal Processing
Familiarity with Linux environments and Linux architecture
Basic general programming skills (Python/Shell) and an appreciation for Industrial Design
Strong communication skills in English
Experience, passion, and talent in a field critical to our success
A strong belief in your work and a desire to see robots improve quality of life in society
Ability to work full-time (40 hours per week)
Availability to work onsite at our office in Stockholm
Commitment to giving 100% to Furhat during your internship
Highly coachable and eager to learn
Must have EU citizenship or a valid Swedish work permit (eligible to work in Sweden without visa sponsorship)
Nice to have:
Familiarity with Linux environments and Linux architecture
Basic general programming skills (Python/Shell) and an appreciation for Industrial Design
What we offer:
Mentorship, learning opportunities, and hands-on experience
Support for transport and similar expenses, based on individual circumstances
