Performs a variety of Protective Systems engineering assignments to support project development, design changes, operations, installation, and maintenance of Protective Systems. These systems are located at the Kennedy Space Center – at locations throughout the site, including at/around space flight hardware processing facilities, launch pad support buildings and facilities, engineering and administrative support buildings and other types of industrial and related support facilities.
Job Responsibility
Perform a variety of Protective Systems engineering assignments to support project development, design changes, operations, installation, and maintenance of Protective Systems
Possess strong working knowledge of fire alarm, and fire suppression systems, operation, and maintenance as well as NFPA code requirements
Perform a range of maintenance and sustaining work step development, design changes, analysis, or review tasks with little to no supervision
Provide onsite technical guidance as needed for new or existing equipment installation and/or modifications
Stay up to date with emerging technologies and industry trends related to Protective Systems engineering
Revise and add new asset information in Maximo database for assigned equipment per MAR process
Develop and maintain job plans and preventative maintenance schedules for assigned equipment
Address and justify preventive maintenance deferrals of assigned equipment
Conduct site visits to investigate system problems, propose solutions and provide recommendations to restore systems
Propose and develop improvement plans to address systemic problems
Support shop technicians in troubleshooting issues
Provide and review technical expertise for technical anomalies
Prepare and review Technical Anomaly reports and presentations
Must be available to respond for emergency and relief assignments
Coordinate NASA and customer related mission activities
Participate in console and / or Red Crew operation during test and launch operations
Provide input to and actively participate in applicable System Health and Readiness Program (SHARP) teams
Develop and present or represent mission related presentations to the NASA and/or EGS customer
Perform readiness assessments of assigned equipment and systems
Coordinate and work closely with requesters, customers, other engineering, logistics, financial, and program management disciplines
Direct interface and liaison with internal and external customers at all levels
Support development of technical proposals, statements of work
Develop task order requirements to NASA to complete Operations & Maintenance Documentation updates
Coordinate and communicate effectively with CAD drafters, Design Engineers, or shop personnel
Interpret and provide guidance for assigned equipment using single line and schematic drawings
Develop, maintain, and produce technical documentation and system/subsystem specifications
Verify and comply with engineering documentation standards and test procedures
Conduct site visits, experimental investigations and analyze engineering problems
Assess assigned systems and equipment for necessary upgrades
Provide mentorship to entry level engineers
Perform all other position-related duties as assigned or requested
Requirements
Bachelor’s or master’s degree in engineering
5+ years’ experience in engineering discipline as identified in purpose & scope
Working knowledge of industry codes and standards, operation and maintenance of Protective Systems
Knowledge of industry standard computer software for the position (i.e. CADD, AutoCAD, MicroStation, SKM, ETAP, PLC interface software, etc.)
Ability to read and interpret multi-discipline Engineering drawings
Capable of using spreadsheets, word processing and standard Microsoft Office software to include Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Visio
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instruction, and procedure manuals
Ability to read and understand schematics & blueprints
Strong ability to use data and analysis to make fast data-driven decisions
Ability to exercise sound judgement and reason
Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization
Must be a U.S. citizen and able to obtain and maintain required clearances/badges as required by program and position
Must have the ability to communicate in English, both verbal and written in an effective manner
Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license
