Boeing Defense Space & Security has an exciting opportunity for an innovative, self-reliant, people friendly, and highly motivated Mechanical Subsystem and Payload Integration Design Engineer, Experienced or Senior level, to join our Experimental Systems Group (ESG). ESG supports a variety of government customers spanning technology domains, and is an extremely fast-paced, responsive development environment delivering new capabilities to customers rapidly and affordably. The ESG portfolio consists of a range of platforms and technologies including the X-37B, the world’s first fully autonomous reusable spaceplane. This position reports to the ESG Design Integration Manager and can be located at Kennedy Space Center, Florida, or Seal Beach, California.

Job Responsibility:

  • Work with multi-discipline teams to develop mechanical subsystem and payload integration product definition including layouts, detail part definition, and installation datasets
  • Perform trade studies to identify and evaluate multiple potential design and build options
  • Support part fabrication and procurement, and on-vehicle installation and test
  • Work with suppliers to define, develop and qualify mechanical, thermal and propulsion system components
  • Develop engineering dispositions to hardware non-conformances and anomalies
  • Support proposal preparation and new business development efforts
  • Working with team leads to define project plans and provide regular progress updates

Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering (with a focus on Mechanical, Civil, Aerospace Aeronautical or Material Sciences)
  • Experienced, Level 3: Typically, 5 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience or non-US equivalent qualifications
  • Senior, Level 4: Typically, 9 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience or non-US equivalent qualifications
  • Experience with engineering and design software (i.e. CAD/3D packages – UG/NX, CATIA, SolidWorks, CREO, etc.)

Nice to have:

  • Strong communication skills to interface with different program and customer teams
  • Proficiency with UG/NX CAD system and Teamcenter PDM, or equivalent
  • Experience providing design support for part fabrication or procurement, and on-vehicle installation
