Job Description

As Mechanical Specialist in the days team at Skelmersdale, you’ll lead defined maintenance activities with a focus on mechanical systems. You’ll be accountable for the performance and reliability of machinery through preventative and predictive maintenance strategies. This hands-on role is central to our ambition of zero breakdowns and zero stops, and will contribute to both short-term performance and long-term asset development.

Job Responsibility

  • Mechanical maintenance leadership and planning
  • Technical support and coaching for operational colleagues
  • Performance management and continuous improvement of mechanical maintenance KPIs
  • System oversight via SAP (CMMS)
  • Contractor management and quality auditing
  • Team development and mentoring of junior technicians
  • Workshop excellence and health & safety adherence

Requirements

  • Completed a recognised multi-skilled or mechanical engineering apprenticeship, ideally with City & Guilds or NVQ Level 3
  • Proven mechanical experience in heavy industry, manufacturing, or process environments
  • Strong troubleshooting skills and experience maintaining complex automated manufacturing systems, including large rotating equipment and hydraulics
  • Skilled in planning, mentoring, and problem-solving, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and timelines
  • Experience using SAP for maintenance planning and execution
