Job Description

As a Mechanical Project Engineer you will be the driving authority when it comes to project technical execution. You will be leading the project team's mechanical engineers to ensure flawless execution of project technical deliverables. You will be responsible for leading project technical teams through the concept, detailed design, integration and commissioning activities. This role combines leadership, technical expertise and people management to drive project success. As a Project Engineer, you will be given the opportunity to act as the Project Technical Lead - the owner of all technical aspects and execution of a project. As the Project Technical Lead you will drive the technical decisions, and execution for the project and lead and direct the project's engineering teams.

Job Responsibility

  • Technical leadership in project execution
  • establishing and following execution plans, managing the engineering team's task completion, issue tracking and resolution
  • Provides technical direction and guidance to the project's engineering team
  • Ensures customer requirements are understood, flowed down and implemented in the design – delivering a system that meets the customer's requirements
  • Ensures projects are executed in adherence to internal and external design standards
  • Project technical scope management – identify, track and roll up the internal / external scope change requests
  • Managing project technical risk through risk registers, scope change logs, proof of principle (POP) or pull-ahead testing
  • Ensure team adherence to ATS' engineering process and procedures
  • ensuring design and verification documentation are filled out and project information is documented in the correct location for traceability
  • Provides status reports for their assigned projects
  • Provides feedback to team members' supervisors on performance
  • Accountable for ensuring technical teams' tasks are complete on time and technical issues are closed out in a timely manner
  • Contribute to providing engineering cost / schedule updates to the Project / Program Manager (PM)
  • Contribute to overall project execution planning
  • Contribute to Customer Kick-offs and Customer Design Reviews through hosting and preparation
  • Review concepts and estimate labor for Sales and Applications proposals
  • Acting as the Project Technical Lead as assigned

Requirements

  • A post-secondary diploma, degree or equivalent qualification, specializing in Mechanical or Mechatronics design and/or engineering
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in mechanical / mechatronics design, development and qualification of factory automation projects
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to lead and lead team members
  • A willingness to take responsibility and ownership for the technical project execution
