Job Description

The Test Lab Team Leader is responsible for day-to-day management of associates that perform all standard and non-standard tests. This is a working-leader position with responsibility for managing a team of lab technicians, while simultaneously completing his/her own work content. This role is responsible for managing projects from all business units in Fortune Brands portfolio.

Job Responsibility

  • Responsible for Test Lab team’s performance management, associate development, maintaining exceptional customer service and safety, all work processes and outputs, budgets, external service relationships, and long-term planning
  • Collaborates with Product Engineering to plan, schedule, and execute product testing
  • Works with engineers to analyze and interpret data
  • Manages and coordinates workflow across the Test Lab team, communicating priorities, quickly resolving issues, and maintaining high productivity
  • Develops and implements training plans for Lab Technicians to assure internal competencies are aligned with latest techniques or advancements in testing technologies
  • Engages and inspires team members through strong communication, coaching, feedback and recognition
  • Performs all standard and non-standard tests. Document all testing results into a standard test report while working with engineers to analyze and interpret data
  • Operates, maintains, and troubleshoots test equipment. Monitors equipment, collects data, and ensures test specimen is operating within the defined specifications. Independently builds new set ups utilizing preexisting core equipment which can be reconfigured to match testing requirements
  • Maintains a working knowledge of the certification and real-world test requirements for all FBIN products
  • Drives continuous improvement and 6S objectives
  • Reviews and writes technical documents such as work instructions or test procedures

  • Ability to effectively manage change, navigate and influence others in a matrixed environment (management experience preferred), deliver tough messages and resolve conflict
  • Associates or bachelor’s degree in Engineering, preferably in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology is required
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in an engineering, lab or test environment is required
  • Strong interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional stakeholders across multiple geographic locations
  • Must possess excellent organizational skills and be able to deal with fluctuating priorities
