Job Description:

The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for the mechanical design of simulated training devices and can perform in a dynamic prototyping environment. This includes structural frames (weldments), sheet metal, control loading, component design, assemblies, and drawings. The primary mechanical design and analysis tool is Solidworks.

Job Responsibility:

  • Work closely with Systems and Electrical Engineering to gather a comprehensive view for the design and development of new training systems
  • Review, evaluate, research, and design to contractual specifications
  • Produce mechanical designs and details that are manufacturable, ergonomic, reliable, and maintainable
  • Create new parts, assemblies, and drawings in SolidWorks
  • Work with and mentor mechanical engineers and drafters
  • Create and present mechanical material to support customer meetings
  • Provide support to manufacturing in resolving design and documentation issues
  • Communicate effectively and work closely with the mechanical CAD team
  • Assist with preparation and cost estimation of new proposals
  • Oversee assembly, modifications, and installations of your design
  • Review designs for future enhancements

Requirements:

  • Minimum of three years of practical experience using parametric modeling and analysis software, preferably Solidworks
  • Must have experience specifying proper manufacturing processes for new design fabrication including machining, welding, and sheet metal fabrication
  • Must have experience with detailed mechanical mechanism design including specifying bearings, gears, pullies, press fits, tolerancing, motors, couplings, and fasteners
  • Knowledge of welding, machining, sheet metal, composite, 3D printing, fastening, manufacturing / fabrication processes, and finite element analysis a plus
  • Knowledge and experience with simulators or simulator industry a strong plus
  • Knowledge and proficiency with AutoCAD software highly desired
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects
  • Ability to work in a project-oriented, fast paced environment

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or 10 Years of Experience in Related Field or Combination of Education and Experience
  • U.S. Citizenship Required
  • Must be able to successfully pass an initial background screening
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain an active Department of Defense (DoD) security clearance
  • Must be able and willing to travel domestically and internationally
  • Must comply with drug-free workplace and testing policies
