Join Our Team as a Mechanical Engineer at Water Works Engineers! Your contributions are essential to the success of water, wastewater, and recycled water infrastructure projects. By collaborating with project teams and contributing to the design and implementation of critical mechanical systems, you will help ensure safe, efficient, and sustainable solutions that support public health and environmental resilience. Job Responsibility:
Support the design and analysis of mechanical systems for water and wastewater treatment facilities, pump stations, and other related infrastructure
Conduct engineering calculations, including pump sizing, hydraulic modeling, thermal performance analysis, and air/gas system design
Prepare technical documentation such as mechanical plans, specifications, and design reports
Design mechanical building systems, including HVAC, gas, plumbing, fire suppression, and air conveyance
Work alongside multidisciplinary teams to ensure cohesive and integrated project delivery
Review contractor submittals, shop drawings, and assist with field inspections to verify compliance with design standards and codes
Incorporate energy-efficient solutions into mechanical system planning and participate in permit application processes as needed
Requirements:
Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (or a closely related discipline) from an accredited institution
Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification and/or Professional Engineer (P.E.) license preferred
0–7 years of mechanical engineering experience, ideally in water or wastewater infrastructure
Foundational understanding or a strong interest in learning mechanical systems design (e.g., pumps, piping, HVAC, process systems)
Familiarity with applicable standards and codes such as IMC, IBC, IECC, ASHRAE, ASME, SMACNA, AWWA, and NFPA
Experience with or willingness to learn CAD tools (AutoCAD, Revit) and mechanical analysis software
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
Strong problem-solving, analytical thinking, and communication skills
Initiative and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively
Willingness to travel to project sites and support work beyond standard office hours when necessary
