Navarro Research and Engineering is recruiting a Mechanical Engineer (3782) in Idaho Falls, ID. This Mechanical Engineer position supports the Department of Energy customer work scope primarily in nuclear facilities within the Civil/Structural & Analysis organization in a variety of projects and functions. Integrate safety into all aspects of engineering duties and personal accountability in the workplace.
Job Responsibility:
Apply advanced principles, theories, and concepts, contribute to the development of new principles and concepts, develop solutions to complex problems or create innovations through adaptation of emerging technological developments or processes, serve as organization spokesperson on specialized topics within an area of expertise
May require planning efforts on complex assignments or projects, lead major design/analysis efforts, always evaluating progress and results and recommending changes in processes and procedures
Perform analysis, hand calculations, modeling and simulation of structural and mechanical systems and components
Perform linear and nonlinear, static and dynamic, analysis of such factors as stress, force, vibration, and material plasticity
Compare results to the provisions of governing codes, standards, and orders
Perform seismic analysis (static equivalent loads) of non-building structures and components of varying complexity
Provide support to various projects requiring design and analysis of steel, aluminum
Provide support to design teams in development of design requirements, alternative analysis, equipment selection and sizing, vendor equipment summaries and evaluations, and drawings
Develop specifications, drawings, supporting analysis and calculations and Engineering Design Files
Perform technical checking of Engineering Design Files and drawings for a variety of projects
Provide support to Safety Analysis through analysis of accidents and their potential consequences
Contribute to and develop cost estimates
Document analyses with accurate and concise reports
Requirements:
Minimum 8 years of related technical experience performing analysis and design
Accredited four-year degree in mechanical engineering
Must have strong analytical and problem-solving skills and experience using structural/stress analysis and finite element analysis tools (Abaqus is preferred), and MS Word and MathCad
Knowledge of/ability to apply national consensus codes and standards, federal/national statutes, and local guidelines as required
Must be able to obtain an 'L' Security clearance (depending on project requirements and approval)
Ability and willingness to learn and apply new skills
Excellent communication and negotiation skills
can effectively write reports, make presentations and productively interface with design team, management, coworkers, and clients
Complete work on schedule, participate in reviews, and provide technical checks and peer reviews
Participates in continuing education, maintains and enhances technical capability, and continues to acquire competence in engineering disciplines
Due to the nature of the government contract requirements and/or clearances requirements, US citizenship is required
Prefer MS in mechanical engineering and experience using complex structural/stress, fluids analysis, heat transfer, thermal analysis, and finite element analysis
Prefer experience using complex structural/stress (over fluids) analysis, and Abaqus finite element analysis
Licensed professional engineer in the State of Idaho in applicable engineering field is preferred
While not required, experience in the nuclear field and related construction is preferred
