The Mechanical Development Engineer (MDE) - Mechanical Integration (MI) is responsible for the design, development and release of housing, castings, stampings, bearings, fasteners, seals, plugs, harness, cooling & lubrication systems. These components are engineered to function together within an assembly, ensuring that the product meets its overall performance requirements. The MDE operates within the eDrive Engineering organization, partnering closely with CAD Designers and CAE (Computer-Aided Engineering) Engineers.
Job Responsibility:
Design, develop, and release mechanical integration components including housing, castings, stampings, bearings, fasteners, seals, plugs, harnesses, cooling, and lubrication systems to meet defined performance, durability, and cost targets
Select appropriate materials
Create design work orders and provide direction to CAD resources
Perform engineering analysis and calculations
Issue CAE requests and provide technical direction
Create and maintain component and sub-system Design Failure Mode and Effects Analyses (DFMEAs)
Assess structural integrity
Evaluate thermal management performance
Confirm sealing capability
Ensure manufacturability
Optimize weight and efficiency
Inspect for potential defects
Create Advanced Design Verification Plan and Report (ADVP&R)
Establish technical requirements for supplier selection
Conduct dimensional inspections
Perform material testing
Coordinate structural analysis and durability testing
Carry out thermal performance evaluations
Validate sealing effectiveness
Inspect prototypes
Analyse mechanical components for wear and durability
Support lab and vehicle-level testing
Conduct reliability, endurance, and manufacturability reviews
Support production validation
Act as technical liaison with Purchasing, suppliers, and Supplier Development Engineers
Provide technical support for components
Analyze test results and implement design improvements
Manage design changes using Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems
Support Value Analysis/Value Engineering (VA/VE) initiatives
Contribute to global engineering consistency
Provide hands-on support at manufacturing sites through local travel
Requirements:
Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
Over 5 years of engineering experience in the automotive sector and or a global manufacturing environment with High proficiency in English
Hands-on experience with EV (Electrical Vehicles) and ICE (Internal Combustion Engine) Powertrain systems, including powertrain, transmission, and electric drive module components
Background in powertrain systems, with specific expertise in housing, castings, stampings, bearings, fasteners, seals, plugs, harness, cooling and lubrication with demonstrated experience in development, or integration
Demonstrated success in the design, development, and launch of advanced powertrain systems, with a strong track record of delivering high-performance solutions from concept to production
Teamcenter knowledge
Proficient with Microsoft office products - Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint
Nice to have:
Understanding of key manufacturing processes related to housing, castings, stampings, bearings, fasteners, seals, plugs, harness, cooling and lubrication
Experience in powertrain, driveline and/or 4WD systems
Intermediate proficiency in 2D/3D CAD modelling and technical drawing using NX primarily and CATIA
Experience and/or training in APQP, DFM/DFA
Understanding of various testing & validation processes
