Be proficient in the use of AutoCAD software and related Autodesk products, and utilize CAD software to create mechanical drawings for the basic and detailed engineering of a Midrex plant
Layout of plant equipment, piping, and utility systems
Able to plan and execute work based on higher level task assignment from others, including engineers, project controls, and senior staff
Utilize P&IDs to design piping routings, and check designs from others
Take conceptual designs, sketches, and ideas from engineers and senior designers to develop the details necessary for a complete, engineered drawing capable of being used for purchasing, erection in the field, design analysis, etc
Able to create bill of materials for fabrications where needed
Able to collaborate with outside consultants or subcontracted engineering firms for project tasks
Travel to job sites to perform analyses of existing equipment, piping routes, layouts, etc. for use in developing future plans, proposals, etc
Travel to fabrication facilities to perform mechanical inspections of equipment and adherence to designs and tolerances
Travel on business trips and/or field assignments as required to carry out departmental tasks and functions
Perform checking of mechanical drawings for consistency with conceptual ideas, design, sketches, etc
Assist senior designers and engineers by suggesting design changes that might improve the desired results of the design
Able to develop capacity to perform basic design calculations as part of design efforts, and learns to anticipate problems such as high stress, overloaded fasteners, thermal growth issues, need for movement compensation, and the like
Work as a teammate with all company departments and employees in all assignments
Work toward building consensus on all assignments by finding solutions which meet the best interests of all parties involved
Requirements
Experienced in discipline drafting with capacity to plan own design work
Developing broader knowledge of designs and systems
Proficient in discipline specific software and design procedures, developing capacity for basic design calculations, and capable of checking detail design by others
Advanced computer skills including use of Microsoft and Autodesk products
Excellent technical writing and interpersonal communication skills
Ability to plan work to meet schedule and deliverable deadlines
Ability to observe & advise field erection activities including supplying technical and installation assistance for mechanical systems used in DR and/or steel industry
Diploma or Bachelor's degree in mechanical or piping discipline
A minimum of 8 years up to 14 years experience in an industrial or technical environment
Nice to have
Advanced Microsoft Excel skills including pivot tables and developing lists for engineering
Developing broad knowledge of mechanical designs and equipment used in various industrial applications, with growing knowledge of Midrex technology & designs
Ability to understand P&ID's for use in piping design and drawing checking
