Job Description

We are seeking a strategic and technical Manager - Mechanical Design to lead our Drafting and Engineering team in Toowoomba. This is a pivotal leadership role responsible for overseeing the mechanical design function, managing both internal and external resources, and ensuring our mechanical handling solutions remain at the forefront of the industry.

Job Responsibility

  • Lead, coach, and mentor a high-performing design team
  • Manage resourcing, recruitment, and professional development
  • Provide high-level technical expertise to deliver efficient, cost-effective, and safe mechanical handling solutions
  • Oversee team throughput, manage design schedules, and track project progress to meet rigorous development timelines
  • Act as a key bridge between clients, Estimating, Manufacturing, and Project Management teams
  • Drive innovation in products and systems, coordinating resolutions for Non-Conformance Reports and Change Management Requests
  • Ensure all designs adhere to professional best practices, Australian Standards, and Safety in Design principles

Requirements

  • Qualifications in Design, Engineering or related discipline
  • Thorough working knowledge and experience in Mechanical Design and Australian Standards
  • A talent for conceptualising and developing concepts, problem solving and innovation
  • Experience in investigating queries, leveraging all-of-business experience
  • Experience in positive people management, leading, and building stakeholder relationships
  • Understanding and ability to apply Safety in Design
  • Strong working knowledge of Autodesk Inventor
  • Strong written, verbal communication, analytical and organisational skills
  • A trade background is highly regarded
