Job Description

Our client is a leading manufacturer of boom lifts, scissor lifts, and specialist access equipment, supporting demanding industrial and construction applications across North America. They are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to take ownership of electrical, hydraulics and controls engineering design activities across mobile elevated work platforms (MEWPs). This is a key individual contributor position with clear progression into technical leadership as the engineering function expands in the short to medium term.

Job Responsibility

  • Design and develop structural and mechanical systems for boom lifts, scissor lifts, and access platforms
  • Produce 3D CAD models, detailed manufacturing drawings, and BOMs
  • Perform FEA, tolerance analysis, and design validation activities
  • Support prototype builds, testing, DFMEA, and product optimisation
  • Collaborate with manufacturing, hydraulics, electrical, and supply chain teams to drive design-for-manufacture solutions
  • Ensure compliance with ANSI, OSHA, and relevant access equipment standards

Requirements

  • Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline
  • Proven experience designing heavy equipment, mobile machinery, or access platforms
  • Strong proficiency with CAD systems such as SolidWorks, Creo, or Inventor
  • Knowledge of welded structures, hydraulics, sheet metal, and fabrication processes
  • Experience with FEA and engineering validation methodologies
  • Hands-on engineering mindset with the ability to operate autonomously in a growth environment
