Our client, a trusted partner of the UK Ministry of Defence, is recruiting an HNC/HND level Mechanical Calibration Engineer to work at their state-of-the-art facility in Bolton, Greater Manchester. The role forms part of our clients Calibration & Maintenance Team working as technical support for the metrology department. In order to be considered for this opportunity you will need to hold a HNC/HND level qualification in MECHANICAL ENGINEERING AND be eligible for SC (Secret Level) UK Security Clearance as both the role and client site have ITAR nationality restrictions.

Job Responsibility

  • Supporting COTS (commercial off the shelf) equipment and STTE (Special to type test equipment) calibration and maintenance
  • Assist production with technical queries on fixtures and tooling along with supporting CMM (Co-ordinate measuring machine) inspection work
  • Guide operators on best practice within the metrology department on day-to-day technical queries alongside looking at ways to improve process and measurement techniques within the department
  • Give technical support for mechanical calibration such as high/low pressure & temperature calibrations

Requirements

  • Minimum qualification: HNC in Mechanical Engineering
  • Experience and knowledge of calibrating torque tools to ISO 6789-2:2017 required
  • Good knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) required
  • Experience and knowledge in dimensional calibration required
  • Experience and knowledge of using and creating programs for coordinate measuring machine required
  • Able to deal with multiple issues, tasks and priorities concurrently

Nice to have

Good knowledge of temperature and pressure calibration desirable

  • Own hardware components and sub-systems end-to-end—from concept through durability, manufacturability, serviceability, cost, weight, and validation—taking designs from CAD to hardware running on a test stand
  • Design components and sub-systems that must survive extreme thermal environments, perform across a wide range of fuels (20+), and push the boundaries of metal additive manufacturing
  • Create 3D models in NX and generate 2D prints with full GD&T per ASME Y14.5
  • Perform design checking and print review to ensure tolerances, processes, and material specifications align with Hyliion's GD&T standards (ASME Y14.5)
  • Conduct fluid and thermal systems design and optimization
  • Perform structural and thermal FEA (ANSYS or equivalent)
  • Install, calibrate, and read instrumentation for pressure, temperature, flow, strain, and acceleration in lab environments
