Is responsible for the routine and non-routine repair and maintenance of packaging equipment and systems. Has some basic mechanical aptitude to build on and an eagerness to expand their knowledge and to build skills in the repair and maintenance of packaging equipment and department systems in compliance with established Company and PSM standards. Packaging equipment and systems include but is not limited to graders, shakers, conveyors, scales, baggers, coders, metal detectors, robotics, casing and case sealing equipment, palletizing and auto truck loading equipment. Will develop the skills necessary to repair packaging equipment and perform maintenance activities that improves and sustains equipment reliability to maximize plant packaging and uptime.

Performs corrective and preventive maintenance including the lubrication and inspection of equipment
Performs the safe isolation, shut down, inspection, adjustment, repair/overhaul or startup of equipment and systems
Performs the troubleshooting of mechanical, electrical and pneumatic issues
Performs and documents the removal, installation, disassembly, repair, and re-assembly of plant components and equipment
Documents corrective maintenance and preventive maintenance
Evaluates equipment for performance
Perform non-routine maintenance jobs assigned
Share learnings with fellow employees
Assist other work groups, specialists, outside resources and contractors
Capable of utilizing resources such as equipment manuals, operating instructions, troubleshooting guidelines, blueprints, schematics, diagrams
Required to develop the knowledge and skills necessary to advance from a 3rd Class Packaging Mechanic to a 2nd Class Packaging Mechanic within the maximum allotted time of 12 months
Requirements:
High School diploma or General Education Degree (GED) preferred
6-month certificate from college or technical school or equivalent combination of one-year education and related experience and/or training preferred
Ability to read, comprehend, write, and present information in English
Must be able to add, subtract, multiply, divide, and calculate proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume
Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry
Develop the skills necessary to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables
Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
Must be able to develop the specific skills necessary to perform each essential duty satisfactorily
Must have good visual acuity
Must be able to communicate and listen to directions
Must be able to identify unusual noises in machinery
Must be able to read Operation & Maintenance manuals, work logs and work orders
Must lift 30 lbs. in awkward positions
Must lift 50 lbs. in awkward positions
Required to be on your feet most of the time
Must walk continuously throughout the assigned work area
Capable of following instruction given verbally, in work orders, equipment manuals, etc.
Capable in the use of SAP to locate equipment and data
Is willing to assist Stores personnel

Capable of examining parts to identify defects
Complete assigned work in a timely manner
Building the capability to be responsible for the troubleshooting, replacement and re-wiring of electrical components
When troubleshooting or replacing motors, takes, compares and documents the motor amp-draw
Repair or assist in repairs in other areas of the plant as instructed
Participates in and helps drive DMS (Daily Management System)
Learn to differentiate between stainless steel, mild steel and aluminum materials
Develops the skills to weld, solder, bolt, rivet, screw, clip, caulk, or bond materials together
Develops the skills to be able to cut, weld, repair or install materials and equipment to company specifications
Is or becomes capable in the use of hand tools, power tools, and testing or specialty equipment
Becomes capable of having the skills required to set up and operate fabricating machines
Able to lay out and mark dimensions and reference lines on material
Develops the skills required to align machines and equipment
Ability to follow established procedures to learn the safest and proper way to operate and maintain equipment
Develops the knowledge, experience, desire and communication skills to begin sharing learnings
Become qualified to operate Powered Lift Trucks, Scissor Lifts, Snorkel Lifts and other equipment
Must be able to work the scheduled days, shifts, times and overtime required for this position
Nice to have:
Prior experience with packaging equipment
Prior experience with packaging equipment, electrical troubleshooting, and welding is a definite advantage
