Job Description

In your role as the Meat Plant Manager at North Star Quality Meats (NSQM), you supervise all procedures involving meat production, quality control, and inventory management of the production plant.

Job Responsibility

  • Work with stores and Category Manager on developing and maintaining a complete fresh meat, frozen meat, and processed meat in order to meet budgeted goals of sales and margins
  • Monitor orders from the stores to ensure in-stock position and goals are met
  • Review vendor programs yearly for best cost, freight, and shrink offerings
  • Track progress of category enhancements and assist in refining as needed
  • Submit budgets and ad revisions on time as requested
  • Working with Meat Category Manager, develop strategic marketing plans including advertising, in-store specials, promotional and special buys
  • Meet with Meat Category Manager each week to discuss all promotional activity
  • Maintain a yearly merchandise marketing calendar for category
  • Manage production
  • Write orders for all production categories
  • Schedule production for all product categories
  • Package products for delivery to stores
  • Ensure timely shipments
  • Maintain proper inventory levels
  • Meet budget sales and margin by writing schedules to coordinate output needed to support weekly sales
  • Manage other expenses to budget
  • Confer with Meat Category Manager on vendor and cost improvements
  • Verify that all products are received, accounted for, and appropriately billed in the meat plant
  • Validate costs against pricing sheets quoted each month and adjust retails as needed
  • Verify that all merchandise is received with acceptable dating and that it is being properly rotated so as to avoid warehouse and store shrink
  • Report on warehouse and store-dated shrink monthly in P&L review
  • Set targets for improvement monthly
  • Assist HAACP coordinator in implementation of all HAACP and SSOP rules and regulations and to work with employees to ensure that they are following HAACP rules on everything they do. Pass inspections 95% of time
  • Implement policies and practices in the plant and stores that ensures that product is handled appropriately and in accordance with governmental regulations
  • Enforce stringent adherence to sanitation and safety guidelines for handling meat products
  • Responsible for supervising the department(s) Category Manager Assistant
  • Assign tasks
  • Answer questions as they arise
  • Monitor performance of assigned tasks
  • Train and manage subordinates to meet department goals
  • Cross train high potentials in multiple functional areas for vacation and illness coverage
  • Create cross-training and mentoring program for all members of all production facility

Requirements

  • Associates degree or equivalent from 2 year college or technical school
  • Two (2) years related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Employee must have demonstrated skills for running a meat plant which includes buying all meat products, the production and packaging, distribution of product to stores, and attaining budgeted goals of sales and margin
  • Experience in all facets of meat industry: purchasing, wholesaling, retailing, pricing, cutting, and processing of beef, pork, poultry, and seafood preferred
  • Must be able to work under pressure, meet all advertising and ordering deadlines
  • have good judgment and the ability to work with little or no on site supervision
  • Ability to create, analyze, and take action on regular reporting tools
  • Ability to operate computer systems proficiently, specifically the MS Office Suite
  • able to accurately type 40 words per minute and operate a phone, fax, copier etc.
  • Ability to understand and follow USDA rules and regulations and to work with a wide variety of governmental inspectors
  • interpersonal savvy
  • Ability to teach and monitor performance of subordinates
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities. Ability to set priorities for yourself and manage the priorities of your subordinates
